vibes
Some shiny scenes, some not so shiny ones / some nice animations, some not so nice animations / nice music / overall entertaining, but not a killer demo as Laevitas for example.
Put the needle on the record.
sweet
fuck yea.
This saved the pc compos for me. Thanks bitbendaz, but a smile to my face. Good vibes, nice little touches.
Looked good, nice colors
Proper disco!
Fun
Nice, the usual Bitbendaz style
What Bobic said.
Back to the House Music happy Days !!! 😃
Underated demo !!!
Underated demo !!!
Some effort went into this, but it just feels completely empty and flat.
Very nice demo, solid and atmospheric, perfect for a party! :)
good effort but it lacks attitude/vibe/narrative/visual funkiness
I know I'm nitpicking but if you have a dancer in your demo, shouldn't they dance TO the beat?

Gargaj, thats your takeaway from the demo? LOL Demosceners seems to have different quality bars for different groups/productions.
Not necessarily a takeaway, but it feels so indicative of the rest of the demo - my criteria for a prod is (generally) based on two things: what a demo is trying to do, and how well it does it. As far as the "what" is concerned, "disco demo" is not exactly a novel concept, and in terms of the "how", it just... doesn't seem to have a whole lot of groove or feeling to it, compared to other disco/funk demos that preceded it like Just A Touch Of Funk or even The Popular Demo - I just don't get a disco FEEL from it, and the fact that the character is out of sync just underlines that, y'know? Most of the scenes are pretty empty and often repetitive, so all my attention is turned toward all these little niggles like the flowers clipping into the character and the anachronism of a track with modern production (beat repeats, chip arpeggios) but with 70s visuals, and the title in latin for some reason which again feels weirdly disconnected from the rest of the demo? Like, I get what you were trying to do here, but it feels like as if the main inspiration for the demo was not disco itself but the Wikipedia article of "disco"? It just feels so sterile and sparse compared to what disco is supposed to be.
The thing is, I see the effort; the track is great, the character model is great, clearly the engine is capable (and I immensely appreciate that you use your own, compared to the Borrowed Engine Bonanza this year) and you know how to make tight shit (Umbra), it's just that this wasn't it.
Nice disco demo!
Did not do it for me
funky shit
You're comparing effort, but if your character animation (arguably one of the focus points of the prod) isn't in sync and your character clips into the other models, I could easily say you didn't put enough effort in either because anyone putting two glances on the demo would've noticed and fixed it - and you can't blame these things on engine choice either. And that's fine, it's one of those things you can miss when you stop seeing the forest from the trees - but I'd be careful accusing others of mistakes.
Here's the thing about appreciating effort: First, effort isn't a metric of quality - it is something to be commended, but both of us can name dozens of prods that the authors must've spent an inordinate amount of time on, and yet they turned out to be just straight up bad. Second, we're all biased about our own effort because we are the first hand witnesses and victims of the energy and time we put into our prods, but are completely unaware how hard the others are working on stuff or what their working conditions are - to say otherwise is presumptuous.

I have to echo Gargaj here, in particular the non-synchronized—and also otherwise jittery and awkward —dancing really irked me to no end. That's just one thing though, there's also a dozen other things that don't sit well together with the rest, and a lot of them really stick out when rendered at crisp HD resolutions, like the greetings texts flying in the face of the camera and the general strange jittering at that part.
Effort is one thing, and while I think it can be commendable, I don't think it's necessarily so. To me much more important is to choose the actual good parts for your demo even if that means ultimately having less content. Otherwise it's just a sign of bad art direction, or you not being able to separate the grains from the chaff, which cheapens the demo as a whole. The good work and attention to details like the look of the light rays and the rain drop overlay effect are laid to waste via clipping objects, dull camerawork, almost every cut fading out to black, very stiff and mechanical editing (the aforementioned rain drop effect appearing on cue with the word "rain" in the vocals), over-saturated ridiculously contrasty color work, and just a general feel of phoning in the concept.
There is effort, but that alone only goes so far. I think Gargaj again hits the nail on the head regarding that, no matter how uncomfortable the truth may be.

First let me say that I‘m not so sure how using a tool my group mates made is any different from you using a tool your group mate made - but feel free to pick that hill, if you want to :)
The one thing that came to my mind is that I had already seen the demo I think you wanted to make - Soul Strain
Feel free to compare engines if you want to, but you had so much more artistic real estate than Someone working on Amiga, yet managed to breathe less life into the concept.

java: expecting insta thumbup for using your own engine is plain silly. noby and gargaj are giving you excellent criticism. you chose your own path of using your own engine, no one forced you to invest all that time in it, and you get plenty of pats on the back from it as it is where other people who use 3rd party engines do not. expecting _everyone_ to care solely that you used your own engine and not analyze other aspects of the demo is ridiculous to say the least. we can all emphatize here for a demo we spent a lot of time and effort on not getting the proper acknowledgment we were expecting. but for your own sanity i recommend you to stop caring about the fact that others demos made with 3rd party engines are getting more praises then yours and instead pay attention to the criticism of why they are getting those praises and use them in your own works in the future. we're not telling you to use another engine, we're telling you you'd have a much more kick ass demo if you paid more attention to certain technical and direction related details.
I commend the effort and things generally look and sound good, however the demo didn't grab me during the compo, and alos not during a re-watch - thums-bup is for the solid work put into this.
wow, this is already like 5th bitbendaz release this month!?!? i need whatever you're on!!
especially loving the tune and those dreamy vocals!!!!
and don't we forget, as someone already mentioned, best placed demo in the compo that uses its own engine!!

Highly interesting reading some comments in here.
Though I now learned my lesson what „good demos“ should be like and I therefore should know it better: still, this is a very good demo to me.
Kudos to Bitbendaz especially given the fact how many quality releases you guys put out recently.

I like disco demos and this one is no exception! Funky!
Good vibes!
Foxy!
Love bitbendaz but I don't love this. I don't have quite the number of nitpick as everyone else but honestly the dancing out of time totally broke this for me. One was too slow, the other was too fast.It was really distracting. Seems like two delta values away from perfect. Rest of it was great.
Love the song!
Oh, I thought the character was ment to be a bad dancer, that somehow mixed very well with the lyrics and made the story feel stronger. But seems like it wasn't intended.
The song is really good!

Awesome demo! Great song and vibe, thumbs up for putting the party in demoparty.
Great disco track + effects. Dance animation is awkward though.
whoops, was meant to add a thumb for the rest.
mmm... knowing how good funk prods can be, this just misses the sweetspot.
I am piggying because of the missed opportunity. The track is fucking great and there are some good ideas, but it felt unpolished.

okayish
disco
Making your own engine: +1
Making no attempt to sync the dancer to the music: -1
Synced visuals has been a mainstay of the demoscene since the 1980s. It really sticks out when they aren't.
