wtf! :)
yes
creativity beyond just technicality in 256 bytes
awesome!
Got me really paranoid. Oh man, so much in 256
Sounds gr8t!
Okay, now this is seriously interesting.
Nice!
ugly looking but has interesting feel and creativity that none other bytetro has done before at this level. i hope this gets some kind of recognition by the next meteoriks jury(dunno what the category could be).
nice sound
...like especially the sound. Gives some creepy maze feeling :-)
oh shit
The permanent rotation is terrible.
And isn't it just playing random midi samples?

Nice work guys! Was awesome on the big screen too.
run stiletto bitch! run!
:D
:D
Cool
the sound really raises it above the usual raycaster intro thing. very creepy footfalls.
It's almost as if it would be better without the bland/ugly visuals.
Aaaaa!!!! Kinda creepy...
With out sounds it is not too entertaining. Makes even kinda dizzy.

The rotation kills it for me. Otherwise, great concept.
About what those three said but definitely with a thumb up.
what gargaj said.
noice!
Nice twist with the sound, but quite ugly (I think we've had enough raycasters in 256b by now), and why is the person constantly turning around?
What sensenstahl said!
damn, i like this a lot!
well chosen samples!
how many bytes does grabbing+playing gm.dls cost btw?

Hahaha ! Excellent.
Why are there screams? Can MIDI create screams? That's amazing!

you can't create sound in general midi. it has presets.
(or you could with tricks like /192 division on beat and using presets like saw wave/square wave((presets 81/82) which have short attack universally) like in 1 bit stuff but it would take lot of space like samples do)
in those presets there are some fx sounds but those are not universal(like different mobile phones) so using then may work on some and not on others(manufacturers tend to go the cheap route=less sounds/banks).
same goes with different drum sets.
sounds
in GM2 sound set there is scream preset.
(GM2 is not universally used sadly)
presets contain samples yes. but you can't easily make new sounds out of em using midi commands
(recognized control data/sysex varies depending of platform)

That's a bit misleading, the exact point of General MIDI is to standardized things so that they sound approximately the same everywhere. The sounds are thus universal - It is however true that not every General MIDI device is also capable of those General MIDI Level 2 extensions which are being used in this intro, so the sounds may remain silent on a Level 1 device.
Technically you could just plug a real hardware synth into your computer and make DOSBox output to that rather than the GS Wavetable synth and the intro might sound completely different if it's not GM compliant. ;)

it's not. i have tested this on numerous devices(around 50+) and can say with confidence that there are manufacturers who take shortcuts and don't put all that what is in the gm specs into there. no matter if gm1 or gm2. only universal presets in gm are presets 81 and 82 on instrument side what comes to how they actually sound. and even those have some variation on sustain level.
want to point out that the question which i initially answered was
answer is yes. even in midi format 0 using presets 81/82 or something constant like drum kit rim shot.
using high beat divisions.
but it is useless because it takes as much space as using samples(if using notes) if not automated by programming it somehow.

also here. those cartoonish animal sound sounded the same in general midi(sadly there is no gameplay videos available).

wow.
will he rape her ?
The constant rotation drags it down, otherwise nice!
love those GS samples :)
Impressive! Adrenaline full! Godlike!
For someone who started commenting agressively other people's prods out of nowhere to criticize technicity and freshness of idea, it is a paradox you would actually release a remake of Gaycast 14 years later in same amount of space ?
In effect 3 of the 4 prods hereunder since 1999 on exact same plateform and in same amount of bytes or less, even have texture, all except one came with source code and all are controllable :
256b "wolf" by tube27 & ByteWay in July 1999
http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=3396
256b "3D Wolfenstein Mouse Controlled" by Movax in May 2004
http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=24755
256b "Gaycast" by Nullsoft in January 2002
http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=4981
128b "Wolf128" Red Sector Inc. in May 2014
