This is how true progress in demoscene or any society or culture is made. Hopefully this production will erect immense social changes the scope of which haven't been matched.

I liked the self-conscious 'troll' attitude (much like the previous Expert demo). As if the demo was a 4chan post.
It has some very nice scenes (I love the backflip guy in front of the sun), but it's all a bit disconnected. Rendering quality is at times great, but, well, I can't give you a thumb-up just because you're using someone else's high-quality engine :-)
doesn't start here (win8 x64) because .\data\Engine\Binaries\Win64\WININET.dll can't be loaded, it's just a textfile saying "pls don't connect to the internet" ... same with ws2_32.dll :|

Err.. so.. It's Unreal Engine with Autodesk mo-caps and random toruses? Trolling successful. I mean, the rendering is gorgeous, but the demo itself is random crap, so sorry.

Sweet backflips and a donut with assault rifles. Direction kinda reminds me of Excess demos.
Really liked this one for it's artistic values. UE takes some points off in my eyes but still thumbs up.
When the torus armed itself I giggled, very meta, I don't care about UE at all, god forbid they'd tried Unity

I get it's a parody, but it's just bad. Erf. Serious clicheville. No thumb up, but it at least avoids a thumb down, from me anyway.
Talk about a mixed bag. There were some nicely rendered scenes (UE or not), occasionally smart syncing and camera stuff plus a very decent and contemporary sounding tune. Entertaining, definitely. Most of the mocap scenes were ugly filler though, and there was random silliness which wasn't taken far enough. Piggie it is.
I like it, but the use of ue4 makes it a piggy. Design is great though and music is fantastic.
the unreal bits (lighting, depth of field) are great, the rest of it pretty hideous.
I'm not sure what this is but it did something right with the direction because I was thoroughly entertained throughout.

It was entertaining yes. But then, as it has been said, the best bits (polishing of shaders etc.) was done for free by the Unreal engine. Add some rather bad choices (ugly mix of chinese shadows and dark volumetric light) and it all adds to a piggy.

I... I don't know. I enjoyed the parody... but can't thumb up mediocre engine-demos. Enjoy your hard-earned piggy :)
I almost give it a piggie for the effort because of the last dancing scene with the metallic look. But knowing you just used UE to make that look good it doesn't save the demo from people who do somersault that bug through static geometrym ugly fonts, boring torusses and out of place colors and shapes. The music with that pitched up vocal felt a bit uninspired and tried to hype a lot. I must say that the music and the visuals at some point had a nice interation, mainly due to the highlights in some scene.
I have no clue why this ended up as second but I guess the music got the Assembly-crowd to vote.
Additional detractors for the fact you used UE and didn't mentioned this anywhere. I mean ripping commercial engines is one thing, but at least be honest about it. Sorry to be so harsh, but it is like that. I wish you the best of luck in new releases, because there is potential hidden there somewhere.

And it was already discussed numerous time, but I can't thumb up a demo where 99% of the code wasn't done by the author of the demo. As release for a "wild" compo it would be an INSTANT-THUMB but as 2nd place in a demoparty it's a bit MEH :3

Errrm, it all was a bit too random and all over the place. Sorry but I didn't enjoy this one even tho the music saves it from a thumb down.
If the rules allow using game engines, and if game engines can produce the same kind of stuff as "proper" demo engines then this is what you get. I think demos should be size limited as well. Allowing 256 megabytes compressed size is just rediculous IMHO.

Thanks for pointing out it was on the beamslide, but I haven't been to Assembly (I was at Evoke instead), so how could I have known? I didn't catch any "appropriate code credit" but I could have overlooked it.

I'm quite positive this production had almost no extra coding from knowing something about UE4.
Question is that what is the point of coding demos any more when you can get this quality effects with this less amount of effort in realtime. Especially if there's no coding and optimizing involved? This has not been an issue for me before because demotools like werkkzeug have been somewhat limited in what they can do.
Maybe we should consider banning UE from demo compos?

I did like the demo very much, but I just cannot bring myself to upvote because UE. Downvoting would also seem a bit harsh, so piggy it is.
One way to handle entries like this would be to limit the compressed filesizes for engines such as this. But would that introduce tools like "UE4 minifier".
For a beginner coder such as myself, it kinda feels rotten to see entries with such high visual quality, that took next to nothing to actually code. But such is the case with any engine. Maybe one day I will have one.

I dunno, maybe the party voters loved the mocap and smooth DOF, but overall the job feels second-rate.

Can't thumb this up.. As I know the sheer amount of work that goes into coding an engine that can run good looking 3d or effects this seems like a nasty shortcut (UE).. Mocap? We thought of using those but I like hand animation as it feels more your own prod then. Piggie from participating. Hope you guys do more of your own content next time.

This was a weird experience. There's this strong feeling that the quality levels of the different aspects of the demo don't match up. Basically what smash said.

Then after I thought about it for some time I realised this is one of the greatest jokes pulled off in scene history. As much as I have no respect for using a game engine it does not break any compo rules. It is obviously fast made and entered as a joke although the music is actually decent.
But the funniest part of all is that people voted this to 2nd place and the creators made some cash by trolling a demoparty. Don't hate this demo, hate the people who voted for it.

The music is one of my favorites in the compo. The design and sync is cool. Maybe next time you should use custom engines and such. :D

Weird motivation, which makes it novel and interesting. Refreshingly terrible design. But more authorship would be better, make your own refreshingly terrible engine.
I think using an engine is fine, but the content here is just SO shitty and not funny.

Regarding UE4 - coders aren't the only sceners, and sceners aren't exclusively coders. The code isn't the only thing about a demo. It's not 1989 anymore, tools and engines and libraries exist. In this case UE4 allowed something cool to exist that otherwise wouldn't have, so it's fine by me.

I wasn't there, but i feel like this was a joke demo, right? (UE4 can do beautiful things, but this was intentionally not one of those). Next one will be better I suppose. But I'm surprised it came 2nd in the compo.

This is not a demo, it's a wild entry. Make it clear next time and then we can talk about fair competition.
I have no probs with engine (i'm so noob when i saw this while drunk i thought it was selfcoded) and if i ever did a demo i would most probably use one myself, but i have other issues with this. Colours, bright contrast... something distracts me to give only a piggie. Definitely not worth 2nd place IMO.
Not seeing similar walls of complaining for Jugi's Unity prods, just saying.
Or the Clickteam Fusion demo in the same compo.
Well I really enjoyed it. Borrowed content all over the place, sure, but they managed to put it into a new context with nice scenes and direction.
Looking forward to their next demo. I have no problem if they'll be using UE again, but maybe with some more selfmade assets, or at least more clarity what was selfmade and what wasn't. That said - welcome to the scene, guys!

now that i watched it.. I like the music, and I like the style. I don't like fake dll files in a silly attempt to block a commercial from connecting the internet - that's what disassemblers are for FFS.
Also being an elitist swine, i don't like commercial engines being used. At all. Surely opions differ, but for me it's also the technical side of a demo that should impress me - and having absolutely no own contribution from the coding department... that's just meh. I don't want to be part of a demoscene where the coding is optional.

quite many of coders (scripters?) use engine done by someone else, usually by group-mate. nothing bad here.
using commercial engine is somewhat scene-tardism. but it's happening, you liked it or not. maybe correction of compo rules are to be considered.
but. i would have given piggy for a good try, but the amount of conversation, critisism and feedback this demo made. whoa.

The music had some genius parts, ruined by several horrible instruments and parts. The visuals looked gorgeous in places, which seems to be thanks to the commercial engine, and lots of UGLY parts thanks to the designers behind the wheel.

Anyway, I like the demo, the style and the music.
Some good looking stuff mixed with some bad looking things.
Takes hints from quite a few places and is apparently not ashamed to show it ;) Lots of style to go around for sure, even if not too coherent sometimes.
