This demo suffers from two basic flaws: First, much of the effort was spent on coding, music and 3d, neglecting design. Therefore transitions are rough and there is no sync to the music. The minimum for example would be to end the music when the demo itself finishes. No excuses needed however, because I was next to the guys when they were struggling to finish it at the partyplace :-)

When I learnt that Amigo would do the music, I said 'thank god! Finally we're gonna see a small sized demo with a module and no 5meg mp3". Alas, the 3d data took an enormous amount of data, resulting in the 11mb filesize. This is another typical problem. 3d artists coming from conventional 3d environments (3ds, maya etc.) always focus on quality (more polygons, detailed textures) rather than size. Demos are a different story however. You can see that in fr30, how they managed to squeeze a very nice and detailed female model in just 64kb.

The music is very nice, the only problem is that it's alot longer than the demo itself, as stated previously.

Coding-wise, I witnessed some interruptions between parts (viewed both on a TNT2 Ultra and a GF2 GTI) which I can only assume is due to AGP transfers (AGP they said... It's good for you they said...)

The reflections in the first scene are the best part in the demo imho, as shown on the screenshot. Finally, this is theLab's first production so I expect more stuff from them in the near future. You hear that Nuclear? :-P

It was time to finally see the first TheLab production! I think it was 2+ years of wait and I am glad these guys managed to released something..

Kool Thing!!!
I enjoyed but I'd prefer more gothic music for this demo, first scence is "all the money" ;-)
Good work, another proof that greek demoscene is alive and active.

Thank you all for your comments, some people mentioned something about breaks in the sound, that does not happen in my PC, however I saw the demo in one that did happen and increasing the refresh rate from the n3dinit.conf file that comes within the demo fixes it. At the line where it says "dontcareflags" also add refresh to the list and it will automatically use the highest refresh rate possible by your gfxcard/monitor combo for the video mode used.

i lived to see a demo by theLab, thanks god :-) (or not? ;-)

in any case, this demo is a good one and it took only three years to the developers (2001-2003) to make it. I recommend it :-)

please, learn how to compress a data dir in a file
fatal error : an error occured while initializing the 3d engine
reason : requested video mode parameters not avaiable
geForce4200-ti-128Mb leadtek-drivers in winme + 512ddr, do you want more HW ?!
zone: spare me the irony please, of course I know how to use a fucking library for data compression, I wasn't waiting for you to enlighten me on the subject.

The compo machine was a P3 with a Geforce 3 and it worked fine, my machine is a P3 with a Geforce2 mx-400 and it works fine, it even worked fine on an integrated intel graphics chip on a laptop, a TNT2, a matrox and some other cards that I tried it on. the problem is your OS (or should I say the absence of a real OS on your system) I heard from some people that it doesn't run with non-NT based windows in some cases., and on a PC with WinME that I tried it it could only run windowed (try changing the "fullscreen" to "windowed" in n3dinit.conf file at the demo's main directory).

OMG! Did you guys use the symbol "Ahoora Mazda" on purpose or was this by accident and caused by the fact that it looks kool?

Aasemoon: Actually I'm sorry to let you down, but 95% of the textures where stolen from various sources including but not limited to 3 games (morrowind, serious sam and undying if I remember correctly), 3dsmax standard textures, and I think an envmap I ripped ages ago from hyperventilation/byterapers (you can see that one on the shot above :)

So, no it wasn't intentional (at least I wasn't aware you used that), and probably came from one of the 3 games we ripped.
