one incredible piece of work. extraordinary music, great 3d models, twisted storyline. has to be watched several times to catch the mood, that's why it ranked only second, although it pretty much deserved the 1st place. too bad that the gfx card reqs are so high, but well, times are changing...

I'm with dipswitch here, it would have deserved the first place. Can't remember that much about it, but I really liked it, it was like a dream world.

Great demo, maybe a bit 'static'. But probably you have to watch it several times to reveal all details.

. why did you not use direct x so the demo is compatible
with ati cards too?

i dislike the direct x api, and i am used to the nice
open gl one. also direct x tends to be slightly slower in some
situations.

this demo is visually impressive and you still find new details everytime you run it.
except some minor flaws in animations, this demo rocks hard.
and for the moment, this is practically the only demo making reasonable use of shaders.

"plek : you are really a fucker : this demo rule much more than the shity techno thing you submitted : and do not say that there is no feeling : there is more feeling in these models tahn in your "used for the 50 th time" metaballs."

dear nytrik, even though you don't seem very sensible or sufficiently skilled to correctly read and interpret english comments, i must tell you that "did not appeal to me" in no way means "this demo sucks and has no feeling". it simply means that i didn't find it very interesting, which, i hope, is my good right. i recognize the quality in both the engine and the modelling (except for those few flaws here and there).

oh and fyi, i haven't used metaballs this time. so you're not very good at identifying effects either :D

just to prove that even though you have nice graphical skills, you're just so totally dumb ;)

Realy beautyfull....

sadly, i'm not sure it's a 100times rewatch prod ;( Just like most of the 3D flybys.

Anyway, your engine rocks and you used it fucking well, models are incredible, it's game quality and for that, you got my respect.

for a moment i hoped you were sensible enough, but i was clearly wrong. nytrik, you're acting like a farty 15 year old (your writing qualifies for a 12 year old). instead of proving my arguments wrong, all you can do is twist a sentence.

you're the perfect example of the average french scener: arrogant and unable to communicate with foreigners in a decent manner. for someone without any skills i make a rather good living (so i guess i couldn't care after all..)

now,
a) come up with some feasible argument(s), or, b) go make another unbearable hellish demo with "feeling".

crappy code (nvidia only) , booring demo.

cannot watch it at home, since i will never buy a fucking crappy nvidia card again, i feel sorry for the guys that want to make new effects and using *nice* feutures with the radeon/matrox cards, but are forced to limit themselves to crappy hw like nvidia. i guess the orgos wants german groups to take the top, and tehereof must use nvidia only compos.

oh and btw, shiva is looking for a job in the gameindustry, where he can develop demos for old nvidia cards, dont bother if you are planning on making games that works on ati or matrox cards aswell, i dont think he's intrested. (somewhat what i understood of the nfo).

oh, and fuckings to the democrew of breakpoint for allowing this crappy stuff in the compo, please stop cheat and let everyone have a chance, not just nvidia owners. you suck. seriously.

Very good visual design and modelling, however the animation was comparatively very poor, the engine was as generic as it gets (no shadows for these robots? wtf!), the music plainly sucked, and the resulting demo was terribly boring.

No thumbs down but it was a close match. Next time consider doing a slideshow.

Amazing work! Great modeling and style, it rocks with antialiasing. Imho it's pointless to argue whether this or the farbrausch demo should be first, they are both extremely well made. And, although I am a happy gf4 owner, I too believe that all demos should work on equally equipped hardware (ATI Radeons in this example). Anybody considering mailing ATI on this issue so that they write equivalent OGL extensions?

would have worked better if rendered hi-quality (add shadows, make those robots higher-poly) and entered as animation, IMO. Shows a lot of work, but the result is not good as a demo IMO

plek: Writing things like "you're the perfect example of the average french scener: arrogant and unable to communicate with foreigners in a decent manner." will not get you any friends in the french scener world.

Puting everybody in the same bag is not what I would call a very enlighted view of reality.

Back to the demo: Well, it works perfectly on my machine, the rendering is very nice, and the design reminds me of a SteamPunk version of the DreamCast game "Skies of Arcadia". A very nice one indeed, but it's not "party stuff". It's missing the typical "whaou effect". But well, we don't create demos for wining parties, right ?

So keep on doing this :)

Shame about the hw requirements, but nice to have a divx version at least.

From a purely visual point of view the demo left me in awe. The low contrast textures and design gives it a unique identity and sets it apart from the usual flybys. Very creative and intricate modelling too.

I'm not really sure if I like this demo or not. :-) I get slightly the same feeling from it as I did from "Le Petit Prince" -- IMO it fails to tell a `story', and when you take that away you're left with a lot of 3D scenes. Even after reading the README, I don't really see why it would require a GF3 (all I can think of is the water effect, which really isn't that great), and I think that making nVidia-only demos should be avoided, but okay, that's the state of things.

Overall, a lot of nice things, and it shows that Kolor has put a lot of work into this demo, but I'm left with the "bumpmapping for bumpmapping's sake" feeling, sorry. :-)

Oh, and for the comments up there: ATI _does_ provide equivalent extensions, they just don't provide the _same_ extensions (as the README points out). Not having ATI cards to test on is a valid excuse, though. :-)

If you're going to use Vertex Shaders, at least make it work on cards that support it. I probably would have thumbed it since i saw this at Breakpoint and i found it quite nice, but since it won't work with my gfxcard i'll wait until you release a final that works.

RELEASE A FINAL ! Halffunctional only GeForce party releases sucks... <img src=http://www.pouet.net/gfx/sucks.gif>

Hey Canonball / Trauma Zero, thumbing down because of a lack of HW is stupid. Many of us would like to see this on Radeon, too.
Thumb down because of ATI-only or nVidia-only is a bit like thumb down because of GUS-only or "you need W2k or above". Got my point?
Oh, I see I've forgotten one thing:

Looks damn nice, but it's just too boring.

Recently, I went through my scene video dir again and re-watched this piece together with several fr/tbl/mawi stuff.

And frankly, it appeared to me that this demo really stands the test of time much better than f.e. fr-025 does.

Artistic competence meets effort, style meets coherence and atmosphere meets direction. Magnificent details everywhere. I guess it would help most people, if it would have something more of an (obvious) point than just showing an impressive scenario. But I'm not sure. After all, there are enough hints to make up your own.

the absence of real shadows is noticeable and gives a little 'cheap' impression unlike scenes in the sky:: those are really great! // in any case, not boring at all and not so plain either: very kolor-ish=)

Had to watch the video because of no ATI support.

But apart from that ... very nice 3D models, good textures apart from being very different in resolution resulting in objects not touching eachother. Didn't like the music.

I realize the guys have put in a lot of work so I give them thumbs up.

Nice attention to detail as thom said, but it does seem to be needing a little something more to put it on my "top shelf". It still rates a rulez, tho.

Rulez.
Now it runs on my 6600GT.

This is shiva's post about GeForceFx and Geforce6+ issues :

blame nvidia.
starting with some fx cards they dropped support for the colortabelext extension.
however, you can try this hack:
http://shiva.untergrund.net/relais/relais_hack1.exe
just replace the demo exe with that one. this is a very hacky thing though. you MUST choose "perfect textures" in the config dialog, otherwise the demo will simply crash. only nice for 256mb cards, really.

Definately in my top 10 favorite demos!

Deserved the best graphics award, no question.

It has a very lovable "abstract" feel that usually occurs in Kolor demos and never gets old :)

to run this on ATi cards:

Amúgy jó demó, azok az ütemre ugráló hoppejek kibaszottul bejönnek, mondanám angolul is, de nem tudom.

Oh good w23 left a comment on this one, only minutes ago.

I remember having seen this demo with friends back in 2005, but never managed to remember it's name nor who made it - only to have it called the "Winker" demo, for the characters waving at the boarding ships.

Not only for it's time a very beautiful demo, but having this schematics as overlays , this lovely robots with their own attitude each, the setting, and somehow even a bit of story - make this one a remarkable demo. Feeling quite lucky to finally have it on my HDD again :)
rulez added on the 2012-09-02 18:12:11 by mog mog
I like the 19th early 20th century style design, the technology and furniture design of the movie "Dune" reminds me of that demo, everything looks ornated and old but its technology is advanced.

I also think the soundtrack fits very well.

Much work must have been put into all the little details.

Appreciated! :)

((and typography, I mean fuck...))

It has it's flaws though, like the low-res textures, but still almost impeccable.
