i'm wondering if there is a handy way to use a custom font? like, is there a ready solution to generate tfx_fontdata.h for a custom ttf ?

No, not really. The data in tfx_fontdata.h was dumped off some VGA BIOS - the first versions of TextFX are so old they actually used the BIOS data directly, something that's not all that possible anymore =)

It would be relatively easy to change the code to read "pixels" off a more sane data format (like byte per pixel) and then render your ttf's to that format via FreeType or something.

All that said, I have no idea why you'd want to do so.. =)

I'm just currently experimenting with textmode-alike mapping using different typefaces, mostly way more exotic than usual console font. And i've totally digged mapping algos that you've described on site and in this package.
