Great demo on "small" hardware

what hardware?
added on the 2011-04-25 09:11:34 by baah baah
Lft does it again.
It's a bit minimalistic in effects, but with funny sync.
Very suitable to the minimalistic hardware made especially :)

I think i got almost the same result when I dreamt of sending the audio signal to the vga output...

Yes! Lft, please share the hardware details.

smth custom involving 32 bytes RAM iirc

Rather lousy way to exploit the oldschool competition rules flaw.
added on the 2011-04-25 23:29:22 by hitchhikr hitchhikr
I always like LFT productions, but what hichhikr said. The bus size rule intended to refer to the age/capability of the platform. The dontknowhowmany MHz Atmel should have been @Wild and it would have scored well there.

Great !

@JAC! I missed it where it was said that there is a microcontroller in this contraption. My guess is that there is none.

somehow didn't feel very impressive, but respect for working with such limitations

Too much limited, it doesnt feel like a demo now.

I only wish that more people would do what lft is doing. It's kind of a small scene ;). Not on par with Craft or Turbulence but a great effort nonetheless :).
rulez added on the 2011-04-27 10:18:01 by elfan elfan
... and, yeah, this is a bit too limited. It doesn't really look very good even though that is to be expected.

atmel ftw

what hitchhikr and xenon said.
As the release is standing right now it's quite useless (no video, no schemes for reproducing, not even a proper description ... even tho the name allows one to guess)

Very DATA, but I would like to know more about the hardware involved. It has a nice cyberpunkish feel to it.
rulez added on the 2011-04-29 06:35:28 by Frost Frost
OK, so can anyone actually explain to everyone else what this is exactly?

There's some "firmware" .hex downloadable of 32 bytes and a weird screenshot...

I'm guessing this is the next lft hardware project, but what are the details, etc...

Most of all, video please? I think the firmware download is rather useless if you don't have the custom hardware to run it (that lft does only, if I'm understanding this)?

I was hoping there's some info about this on lft's webpage, but there is none.

Also, how did this "abuse" the compo limitations (according to some)?

No thumb until lft finally reveals what this is about.

How is a ~2005 microcontroller oldschool? That's like saying my C2Q is oldschool because it's 2 years old already.

Here's a youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCHOCkm8Ieg

Since there's no better source of information (looking at you lft), I'm transcribing from the screen:
"Custom ATtiny15-based hardware. Analogue and digital electronics, 1.6MHz, 32 bytes (!) RAM, 1 kB ROM, produces a VGA signal and mono sounds."

Not to say that this demo isn't cool but I personally expected "analogue and digital electronics" not to include a microcontroller. I guess it's an idea for the next creation :D

OK, given the limits, this is worth a thumb.

The music is better than expected.
rulez added on the 2011-05-03 22:18:14 by xeron xeron
Nice. Great beat.
rulez added on the 2011-05-04 02:34:26 by xernobyl xernobyl
There's no way the music and everything are only 32 bytes... they're flashed on the ROM I'm guessing... but it's still pretty nice.

I'm not sure what the compo limitations were, but definite thumb up for me for the effort and the awesome result.
rulez added on the 2011-05-06 15:36:37 by HeatSurge HeatSurge
I've just read the implementation details on Linus website, and I think everybody should thumb this up.
Astounding!

Awesome. I love AVR 8-bit microcontrollers. I'm really looking forward to doing some similar stuff too when I have more time on my hands.
