well,
a new linux demonstation of non compatibility of all distributions with the demos.
you MUST install other library to run a demo.... it is not an demo in the demo spirit.
because a demo was must automatic run and was must non specific dll dependant,
or join the rpm (.deb .tgz and all world format) to make a package for any distributions.
else, if you want compatibility, make an avi file :)
i hasn't look this demo for cause of inadequat system (linux redhat 7.0 with no good sdl installed) but i try to upgrade my os and retry to look.
windows has a lot of defauts but some demos run on all windows with no problems...
in our next production please, link as static your exe with the libsdl.a etc.....

file /usr/lib/libSDL-1.1.so.0 from install of SDL-1.2.3-1 conflicts with file from package SDL-1.1.4-1
sorry i can't look your demo on my linux.
port to windows is the pc compatibity solution.
sucks added on the 2002-04-01 16:02:18 by zeupiark zeupiark
may wish to remove package SDL-1.1.4-1 before installing appropriate SDL-1.2.3-1.
may also wish to learn rpm . how to upgrade your system. requires same skill than being able to install directx8.

links invalid since it was moved inside 'not_shown' directory/

final (linux)
final (win32)

note, win32 version works best under NT-family kernels.

zeupiark : hey, I know now why that crap kiki prod demo was presented under win32 and not linux. you didn't manage to rpm -i a text editor. Thanks for all, I very like to laugh at work.

This is the first demo I know of which uses an internet connection to dymically download material to use in the demo.

is the first?

ofcourse, that's revolutionary in itself there also weird stuff going on with the `music'. I'm not sure I actually enjoyed the end result, but it certainly shows some fresh ideas.

impressive.

Not terribly interesting, and the sound skipping is horribly irritating.

Thanks for the vid because it doesn't run in win7 at all, claims it can't open video.
rulez added on the 2009-10-08 13:07:52 by Claw Claw
If it can't open the video it might be because there's no 320x240 full screen mode.

Ffuuuuck, way cool. Quite free in form in every dimension, big respects. Never ran on any computer I tried, at least the video is kind of watchable. A hq vid would be appreciated!

So when I first watched this it ran for 15-20 minutes I think because my internet was slow and this pulls data from there so it was like half a second of rendering + sound followed by 2-3 seconds of standing still and I thought that was part of the design, so it became almost a cautionary tale on taking good care of making sure what's intended and what's not.
added on the 2017-07-05 22:36:48 by Gargaj Gargaj
Yeah good point. I think that's why I started documenting my demos after that one. Youtube does help with that now.

The version that got released at mekka&symposium had the internet access disabled and used local resources, however.

Also these days the image downloading (which happens in the background, during the first half of the demo) unfortunately does not work anymore as images.google.com has changed since then. So the parser does not work anymore :/
