It's about what you think it's about. Someone thinks it's about having adolescent fun, boozing and making lame jokedemos, someone thinks breaking hardware limits on old hardware is the shit and someone fancies trying to impress people with 15-minute voyages into white noise. Each to his or her own.

Very little truly original stuff, even for you.
xeron, some of old school demos I've liked most actually managed to deliver way much more than just "nice technical coding" (which 1. requires a lot knowledge to understand in first place (.. I have that, believe me or not (probably not(lotsa bracets, luckily I like C))) and 2. a "forced" "rational" approach) by actually managing to raise emotions and ideas without having to have a clue about the platform. That's so much more awesome, and that way one can TRULY give respect for the guy who did the demo without concentrating to only making one thing well. :-)
