the requirements suck ass, but this intro surely rocks... i missed a bit of coherency, but excellent visuals and sync

I didn't really think the visuals were excellent, but it's a pretty nice product.

Not exactly pretty nor nice to listen to, but... very interesting effects!

3D code is very buggy, I suggest turning on the Debug DirectX Runtime and you'll see what I mean.
rulez added on the 2002-09-01 19:44:34 by Jare Jare
Well, it's no surprise this didn't run on my GeForce2 MX400. No surprise at all.

But I think it's about time demos/intros started using more 'advanced' features of new 3D cards. We can't live in the 90's forever...!
runs sweet as a nut here... v.nice intro, weird but good syncro. nice style. respekt!
rulez added on the 2002-09-01 20:14:33 by Panda Panda
there are some visuals i don't really appreciate (such as polysoups and interiors of cubes), but on the overall this is a nice intro.

eeeeeeeew. that font. anyway, looked ok-ish, but other then that pretty boring iirc.

(that sentence didn't come out right, Guess I shouldn't visit pouet when I'm still delerious from lack of sleep at a party :)

So. let me try again: I think the font is really ugly and doesn't fit the rest of the intro. other then that, the intro looks pretty ok.
added on the 2002-09-01 22:06:03 by sang-soo sang-soo
okay. this gets a rulez because it's fresh (and the first german haujobb-intro in a long time that doesn't look like discloned/ethik; dimensionsfalte is an exception :), the sync and the music is well done and it manages to be colorful without resorting to coder colors.

could've been shorter though, and the only really difference between this and your average jizzblob 64k intro is that it uses per-pixel bumpmapping on everything.

the truth is that this intro is only half finished.

it was evoke, we wanted to be part of the competition and the intro didn't feel that bad - that's why you can download the party version here.

in this version the sync is very unfinished.
and there is a bug in the sample packer which create ugly "bubbling" sounds.

that's why you can expect a final version at the end of this week.

coders.. :)

ok, do it hellfire. then it will be an even more
accellerating prod with one of the weirdest tune of this year :) i love it.
added on the 2002-09-02 11:34:12 by jazz jazz
ah, another thing:
the intro uses 4 textures pipelines and uvbump. so you either need:
ati radeon 8500 (or better)
nvidia geforce3 (or better)

radeon7500 does not work because it only has 3 texture pipelines
nvidia geforce4mx does not work because it sucks

together with the final, an avi version will be available.

thank you for your attention :)
good night

Seemed to work fine with my GF3, although it did blow up when using the d3d debug drivers. I really wish more coders would spend a bit more time/bytes putting in at least a few checks for the device caps! >_<'''

As for the intro, well, I can't say I saw much of anything that made the requirement of a GF3/4 worthwile, just a few basic shaders, but I'll leave giving it a thumbs up/down until I've seen the final version...

reaktor: Kasparov was runng here always very fine. Back at the release date even with tnt1 (but always on a pIII-450), so it's a quite bad comparison with this intro's requirements.

looked o.k. and though I understand that it's better if demos run on older systems too it's also nice to see some demos taking advantage of certain new features which can create some new visual candy. On the other hand we still see software demos puilling really interesting stuff on our monitors so hey, depend on what you make of it, some productions are worth being limited to special features some are not. The one we have here looks nice but I saw better intros which did not demand special features.

nytrik, know you're just kidding with the last line but hey, the poor are those who have the creative effects because they do have to get good stuff out of nowhere where others use hardware features! :P
interessting discussion here...

i think you guys see those "hardware requirements" a bit too serious. the situation is that i got that really nice radeon card from ati and just wanted to play around a bit with those new features.
further on, i started to code a bit d3d (only doing opengl before) about one week before evoke. so this is in no way "extremely advanced pixel shading technology" nor anything like "breathtaking new effects".

fact is that this intro is just a try to get something nice done for the evoke competitions as quickly as possible, and all materials looked much nicer with bump mapping enabled ;)
things looked more interessting and colourful when using 4 parallel textures, too - that's why you need a geforce3 to run...
in this case it does not really make sense to force geforce2 compatibility, because it has 2 textures only, so everything has to be rendered twice - and things are already slow enough ;)
and, hey, we are doing demos - not game business, so why limit to tnt2 ?!

finally, we are just beta testing the "final" version of this intro, including a few new effects, more sync, more cameras, better font :), nicer sample quality and a filesize below 64k.

thank you :)

a nice one,
i finally managed to make it work at home..

what i remembered from the compo was something completely chaotic and senseless.

it somehow is, since you can predict what will happen in the next seconds, but it finally is nicely made, each pattern inducing another scene, very nice syncs, yeah ..
visuals are good too. too bad it's a bit slow on my 900mhz pc ..

very entertaining, i just watched it 4 times in a row :)

Ugh.. couldn't watch it nowhere. There are some Icafes here now that have Geforce 3 and 4. This one have 4MX460, but I have heard that 4MX have reduced features. I don't know. I get either black screen or green stripes. One computer told me it didn't found "pixel shaders" I don't know anything about the new GeForces, but unfortunatelly couldn't run it don't know why..

The ugly purple flashing window is probably coming from the debug D3D runtime. The debug runtime clears the back buffer to an ugly color when you use the DISCARD swap effect. When using DISCARD, you should touch every pixel of the back buffer before presenting it for display. This tells me that they didn't use the debug runtime during development, which probably means there are other bugs lurking in there as well.
added on the 2002-12-19 20:05:57 by legalize legalize
Yep, switching to the retail runtime eliminated the problem.

About the requirement:
I own a TNT2, so I'm unhappy 'cos i can't watch it, because it's great.
On the other hand, GF3 is IMHO widespread enough to use their features.

The word "final" has been mentioned 10 times so I hope that after 13 years, we will get that final version! ;)

Obviously does not work on my Win7 main rig (black screen + music only). Does not work on my Tualaltin/TI500/Win98SE old school rig either (green bars on top). Does not work in VMware XP or Win98. I could only make this work in Virtual Box XP, in Win98 compatibility mode!
