fckn cool! Great and original sounds. If you implement an echo effect, it will sound like a pro track! Minor uncoolness is the bass sound. It needs more snap/punch at the start of it.

The effect really looks good, but I'm missing a bit of progression throughout. I think you can start with something more minimal so that you don't reveal the entire effect at once.

Also a logo or something to round off the prod would be cool.

All in all it's a bit of a groundbreaking 4K again. This is getting scary :)

Instant thumb-up of course!

Great looking, great timing (especially on the screetch sound, yes)

I'll join Loaderrors comment on progression - you feel like you want a bit "more" in the end, so maybe a more slow start would have been good :)

Great, great sounds in the music, and of course extra plus for stereo :)

hi hi. Few notes,

Im in vacations at my parents, I will be back to normal life in 6 days, then I will fix the crashes on some computers (hitchhikr, gargaj), fix the sound (sorry josss) and make the video. The server that hosts rgba's site seems to be up and down, please a bit of patient, no need to post about broken links, we know, and sorry for that. Trace, no space for the logo, Utopian (thx man) and me actually had to cut stuff in the last minute to make it fit in 4k. Ah, just in case, this is gm.dls again, so you know, you know?

the size-change of the spheres ruined some of the 3d for me, but it makes it more interesting than a static configuration so I guess it's good (can't decide really). But in any case, it's a fine use of that ao-effect again.

all in all: is nice!

In my first comment, i talked about ambient occlusion (and therefore about 3d).
After watching it more carefully, it seems that the scene is composed by 2d sprites (of a small group of bubbles each).
If it's the case, you completely fooled me. For that, you deserve an additionnal thum up BB Image

Is it the case?

hehe. This ARE real 3d spheres. Each one is an individual sphere, no grouping or anything. It's 3d, almost any standard technique can be used here - as occlusion queries, shadow mapping or ssao.

I managed to make the ssao work with shaders 2.0 cards, I'm using 14 taps (without dithering or bluring, but eh, this is 4k!)

The spheres are raytraced, they are pure 3d. The thing is to bound the real geometry by a simpler geometry (say,a cube) and do the raytracing on the shader. That way you can draw for example a million real 3d pills:
BB Image, they correctly interesect each other and so on, but you only have the cost of one million cubes (what is very very fast). Another example, again one million toruses (shaders 2.0, quite fast) BB Image Again, these are real 3d, not only they interesect/occlude each other, but also any starndard geometry you want to mix with the scene with regular polygons. The only problem is you have to write to the zbuffer, and so early zcull optimizations are disabled, but is pretty fast anyway even in my old gfx card.

this use some type of fft?
rulez added on the 2008-05-15 19:16:53 by pera pera
why the fuck would you do an FFT for the synch when you make you own soft synth ?!?! duh
added on the 2008-05-15 19:35:55 by p01 p01
pera, yep. Well, its not FFT, but just a direct implementation of the Fourier Transform (fewer bytes, but slower of course).

p01, you really want to keep track of spectrums across convolutions and distortions? Unless you are making a synth with only sinus tones, I think you have no option other than computing the FT...
added on the 2008-05-15 20:22:23 by iq iq
mmh Ok.

Haven't coded a "real" soft synth myself, I didn't expect the effects to affect the signal so much that an FT would be necessary.

Thanks for the info.

Also problems with the colours here (Quadro 5600, latest drivers). Only green. :-(
But WOW, the synth. <3 <3 <3

Btw, what Loaderror said.

Oh, just saw the vid. I do not only have problems with the colours - I also get lots of gfx freezes. Thought it was part of the design :-/

iq: now let us know, the instruments used for the music is postprocessed standard midi sounds, right? :) (as I guess you're hinting above)
added on the 2008-05-17 10:49:36 by Puryx Puryx
at least i can hear some sounds i heard before in rgba 4ks (stiletto, e.g) so i also would guess ist processed gm.dls sounds. very well modified though :)

It didn't work with my nVidia GeForce FX 5200 so I had to watch the video, it sucks considering its a 4k production and the video is 60 MB large ! The spheres cloud effect is pretty cool and well rendered, it's like if it was realtime rendered by a raytracing engine like POV-Ray - so it's cool. The objects reacting to the electronic music is also a good idea and thanks for referencing the toxi.in.process blog post !

I like the idea, but it didn't work. Why the small native resolution and it needs antialias?

Ant, you are totally clueless. Again you thumb down a small product that doesn't work on your shitty system.

Fuck off already ok?

Technical o.k., especially for the size... the sounds are noisy and not my taste.

5h0ckw4ve: he appears to be saying that the idea didn't work, and I can only echo his comments about the resolution (infact I think I already did).
fucking great, audio and video.

Very interesting - for a 4K the soundtrack is nothing short of epic.

Simply amazing instruments that have been created here, postprocessed MIDI sounds or not. It's all about tweaking the system...

Having only 1 effect would normally be a setback, but not in this case. Thumbs up!

ok, we reworked the music, now JosSs is happy :) I uploaded the new version, together with a wav writer for the sound (so you make your mp3 yourself at the quality you want) and also with a standalone mzk player. Lemmus, pls run the wav writer, and update the mp3, thx :) Updated video will come soon.

Pegasus, i have same problem.
GeForce 6600 256 Mb PCI-Express x16, ForceWare 175.16, Windows XP SP 2, DirectX 9.0c lastest. Then watching this demo I see only bottom half, top half is black with some strange lines in most upper part. Bottom half countains green squares with some noise. I think this green color on nVidia cards means some error. kindernoiser works fine, slideshow through.
