its only a basecodes should have not been released as that.. O_O
Try making it 512B and then we'll see...
not really....
oh crap, it's a 1k actually. i suck =(
What CygnusEd said.
meh
meh
boring...
c'mon, it's 2008. better luck next time.
it had to compete against 4k intros, so i guess it's hard to compare it right now. I'll decide if this is piggy or sux after the party.
no.
uncool :|
This competed in a 4kb competition. The decision of leaving 3kb of wasted space is your own decision - and doesn't make up for the lack of audio and visual inspiration.
... and it's considered cheesy to greet your girlfriend.

It's always a start

[16:15] <MrVainSCL> i have released the 1k intro evolution (4k pc intro compo) http://pouet.net/prod.php?which=50072 i cant register at pouet and SADLY their is the wrong (buggy) version online.... on the party web is the final (including music in 1k on XP machine)...
[16:16] <MrVainSCL> would be nice if someonce can change it and write that thier is the wrong version... thx
New (temporary) url here.
About prod: no idea :-)
looks exactly the same to me...dont know about buggy. I wont comment on music, that would be unfair.
excellent idea :D
awesome now it have sound !!!!!
music is nice
graphics are meh

MUCH more interesting with sound. What do I say : music!
The best 1k synth evah! And nice graphics too!! Best prod of 2008
The best 1k synth evah <- LOL
It is not a synth. it's the windows XP setup music.
C:\WINDOWS\system32\oobe\images\title.wma
WHY DOESNT IT HAVE 1k SYNTH SOUNDS ON MY WIN98 >>!>>?!
lamest. rip. ever. hope melanie dumps your cheating ass.
okay, using windows music tracks ...
crap
sounds a "bit" different in vista... ding...ding...ding...ding...
Okay if that is the case, here's your thumb :)
(I'm all for creative cheating, but I wouldn't vote for it :D)

Nice colors and funny trick with the music :)
im all for creative voting but i wouldnt cheat for it.
Someone forgot to credit Microsoft, heh
a pouet release is all very well but cheating in a major competition is a thumb down.
I run an IT Consultancy for a living and have to hear that fucking Windows song almost every day. In fact, sometimes when rolling out a bunch of systems, I have 6 copies of that tune blaring out at me in one go. I didn't come to breakpoint to hear that cunting song again!
Please, don't pull a stunt like that again. :(

too short, but cool
the trick with the music was a nice idea

Creative thinking.
Really...
wtf? who's author of this crap?
sorry, dudes
sorry, dudes
I didn't much like this demo. The bugged party version wasn't so hot, but the version with sound is worse to me since it's not really made for the demo..
Now thats bad
we've seen it all
Released at BP2008 first without music, then with music. Problem is, the music is the default Windows XP install music that can be found on every WinXP install at C:\Windows\system32\oobe\images\title.wma Using a play() call on this file and trying to seem clever about it is lame.
no. could probably be done in half the size, and no mentioning of the origins of the tune in the NFO.
if 256 then maybe...
was more acceptable with music
Well done.
could be easily done in 256 byte i guess and using some wma playback is not a really good idea ( interesting though, that some people really think its a synth :) )
thanks cyan, I actually thought it was a nice effort to put that music into 1k... that windows music file is 2,5 mb large.
It has sound (and a nice one!)... so thumb up.
What Preacher said ;)
Hehe, you got me there for a moment!
better than some prods here
Well, DDT would argue that all 64k's and 4k's and so on are the same thing - cheating because they use windows files instead of actual code.
Productions like this improve his point.

so good so good that it hurts :(
hi guys,
thanks for voting and the discussions started here. I still thought that my 1k will get flamed and its really funny to me, to see how you guys are voting and what you think about the "tricky way" to play music in a 1k intro.
You are saying its cheating but i dont think so. I think cheating would be something like d/l a tune from the web and play then or something like this, what is not on your HD before.
I am just only using a XP OS component (the wma tune). When saying this is an illegal point to use this OS component (available on any XP system), so what about using the API stuff (Win32, DX, OGL) where people just call OS graphic/sound functions?
However have you ever thought about some top voted 4k intros on pouet, where the coder is using the GM.dls (a system dll) and extracting the waves from this dll to play music, insteed coding a real synth? If this is legal, so i dont see the different using the GM.dls or using the wma tune (both are system components).
To be clear, i didnt broke any BP compo rulez and the entry was not disqualified.
But its really nice to see how and what you guys are thinking about the tricky way using a wma tune in my first 1k intro and what is legal and where it stops.
Personally i think the intro is ok for a first 1k intro and a lot people got the "oha, wtf" effect when they have seen this prod the first time and listening to the tune.
To the people saying the intro could be done in 256 or 512 bytes... ok, possible you can... But i dont like to code for DOS, we have 2008 and so the 1k intro is a Win32 executeable file with a resolution of 640x480 in 32 bit with a messagebox and music ^^
best regards

MrVain: please... if you don't get why people do not like this intro, then you're either provoking or a bit retarded.
You are using music that you have NOT composed or created yourself, without giving credits for it.
Also it is obvious that your intro is quite simple without the sound.
Great that a lot of people get "whoa, wtf" when they hear the tune, but how do they think when they learn that you did fucking NOTHING to create this tune at all?
Nobody wants your entry disqualified - we just think you suck, ok? :)
I know I'm sounding harsh, but I was really disappointed by this - and when I read your argumentation about the "wow-factor of sound" I just plain disrespect you taking the sound/musical credits from someone else.

Well, you see, there is a thin line between doing something bold & clever and bold & stupid. ;)
The point is that you didn't make the music and kind of implied - or people, who have never heard the tune implied - you did.
Also, the visuals just suck. Have a look at some other 1k intros.

I like the compo version better
Puryx has leading. ;)
i found it nice actually, but didn't knew that the music was ripped.
MrVainSCL: It's not cheating since you did use system files but it's just a shit production for a 1K code and design wise.
for 1k .. a lot of room for improvement
hmm hmmm hmmm.... Thumb for 1st 1k prod. Sucks for no musical credits... thumb for being flamed here. Sucks for the cheesy colors :D nah whatever. I give you a thumb. I know youre a nice guy ;]
it's not like it's the first time someone uses this trick...
One thing about the music. There's a tiny difference between playing a system audio file as is and extracting instruments from a DLL and inject them in a tracker/sequencer
The nfo saves it from thumbdown. Piggie.
Scheisse! Best with earplugs.
Thought it was actually kind of good until I found title.wma... May not have broke BP rules, but should have had music credit at least, because without, it's plagiarizing.
Shame abot the music...
forgot the thumb
(Without the music) ok for a first 1k.
ok :)
ROLF!
Pure Namevoting...
:P
