nice. Could've been better if the scenes had been more tied together in a nice way...
anyway, some (good) new-looking stuff here.

AP once again show they are the group of the future with funky, refreshing effects

Alien Prophets did it again !
A real nice job with meta-balls, and cool 'sounds' !
It Rockz ....
rulez added on the 2001-10-16 18:08:38 by kohai kohai
music and especially the effects rock, but there's nearly no syncro, plus the transitions are quite bad. could've been a hit.
added on the 2001-10-16 18:26:56 by robotriot robotriot
nod to robotriot, at last some new effects! music does the job well. No gfx, no transitions. The effects save the day. I liked it! :-)
rulez added on the 2001-10-17 00:19:55 by moT moT
Yup, I liked this one. Some nice effects, but transitions or something would have been even better.
rulez added on the 2001-10-17 02:00:22 by sea_monkey sea_monkey
Like a 64k version of anything else done by Alien Prophets - good, unique effects, no consistent design or transition. Music is allright, percussion is a bit like hplus.
added on the 2001-10-17 02:31:13 by phoenix phoenix
enough cool fx to stuff a dozen of intros.. next time - a bit more sense to it please! 8)
oh, and the orange-meta-plane (or whatever it is)-scene brings my geforce to a screeching halt.. nice.. 8}
rulez added on the 2001-10-17 21:04:02 by bhead bhead
I am not a coder bhead, but I suspect this is rather your cpu choking, not you geforce... Am I wrong? :-)
added on the 2001-10-17 21:38:48 by moT moT
great intro, cool fx.. needs maybe more syncro? fucking subjective anyway. go on, guys!
rulez added on the 2001-10-17 21:45:23 by fred fred
yes yes very good intro, on my butt is now written "alien prophets" coz they kicked my ass this time :) keep up the good work guys

although i'm getting flamed for it, but please stop overrating this intro...
it's good to watch but it definitely isn't worth a thumb up.

now shoot
added on the 2001-10-18 18:56:15 by PigPen PigPen
Are you crazee PigPen? Putting such a comment is only going to make the popularity of this intro skyrocket! You are actually _boosting_ its ratings! :-)

Anyway. This is a democracy. We vote for what we like. If you don't like it, vote it down and tell us why. You just can't force your view upon anyone else. Hell, Cocoon said it right:

"You shall not force your will upon others" :-P
added on the 2001-10-18 20:22:15 by moT moT
do you feel like fulfilling every suggestion to you? ;)

anyway, this was my comment to the prod. in other words:

in my opinion, this is not a "thumbs-up-prod" and for me, it is overrated.
and i do not vote thumbs down, because between black and white there it at least grey ;) (and fairness, though)

Regarding that "orange meta-plane" moT was talking about.. I have an Athlon 1.4GHz, GeForce2 Pro & DetXP 21.85.. and it's slow as hell for me too. Is it P4/SSE-only code?! GeForce 3-only? Who knows (and who cares, really).
added on the 2001-10-18 21:17:18 by phoenix phoenix
bhead, not moT, sorry.
added on the 2001-10-18 21:20:07 by phoenix phoenix
moT was there too.. 8)
(btw my setup is dual-pIII-600, 512ram, geforce, 21.85.. but whataheck, it looks kinda nice anyways 8))
added on the 2001-10-18 21:30:54 by bhead bhead
yea, that specific effect is slow here, too (athlon 1ghz/geforce/640mb)
added on the 2001-10-18 23:27:07 by robotriot robotriot
a bunch of really eye pleasing fx thrown in randomly to form a mess with inconsistant design. and no attempt to make anything fit with the music.
the music is great btw.
added on the 2001-10-19 09:57:53 by _ _
I second _'s comments, but I do give it a thumbs up for the music, which gives the intro a very nice, restless, gloomy atmosphere. The orange (raytraced?) metaplane slows down here too (PIII 1GHz-384ram), so I'm rooting for a little explanation from one of the Prophets on why this is happening. Do we need a P4 or...?
rulez added on the 2001-10-19 18:33:16 by Vip Vip
Good job guys !!!
But little slow on my PIII 500/GeForce 2 MX/256 Mo ??? ;)
rulez added on the 2001-10-19 18:45:44 by Stv Stv
this production is so unlike previous alien prophet productions... no synchro, no fancy approach to effects. I guess it has been thrown out in a few hours to test their hw code.
added on the 2001-10-19 19:17:35 by _-_-__ _-_-__
nice effects, but that's all.

nu må i satme gøre det bedre til SE ;-)
its easy to get marchingcubes slow.. since its VOLUMES ie.. for instant... 30x30x30 compared to 40x40x40 .. hit it on the calculator and see the difference :)

if you are sitting on a machine and party coding.. its easy to put those grids a bit to high if youre sitting on a fast machine.. i guess thats what they did.. so did we acctually ;D

other reason could be that their marching cubes code is just slow ;)
added on the 2001-10-20 13:52:43 by Hatikvah Hatikvah
stop peddling your code advice and get to work on your own stuff.
added on the 2001-10-20 14:09:30 by Shifter Shifter
the part with the plane in the grid was a bit slow here too.. i don't think it's because of their mcubes stuff tho (the other balls ran at a reasonable framerate)

probably something else cpu/fill-rate expensive :D
added on the 2001-10-20 14:34:26 by superplek superplek
the lack of synchronization is because we combined the music and the effects too late. And once again we spent too little time to make it perfect - it turned out as it did and that's that. (The orange blobby thingies with the plane are slow becuase the metafunction is called 32*32*32+6*NumVertices times per frame and not becuase there are a lot of faces.)
added on the 2001-10-22 16:54:13 by jar jar
Nevertheless, it's still quite a tasty release... waiting for stunning intros from AP then!
rulez added on the 2001-10-22 17:31:07 by dixan dixan
music dont follow the visuals, and is too standard
visuals are only designed one by one, but no coherence of the whole intro, no gfxs ...
i dont like effects without coherence/transitions
another intro, nothing exciting, lack of time perhaps
it's a nice show.

bah. unimaginative and unoriginal nu-media crap... (since macaw didn't say it, somebody else had to:)

Nice effects, but the scenes aren't really connected to each other anyway. And that one effect run <1fps on my computer (900duron and gf2mx).
Anyway a nice intro, but i've seen better.

Hm... Kinda "been-there-done-that" intro... but hey, we al l like that, don't we? (no we don't :)
rulez added on the 2002-02-20 16:51:13 by Gargaj Gargaj

it doesnt look very original as a whole but seperate effects and screens look really well and refreshing. good stuff and the name is cool to =]

lacks originality, but looks
ok, so I'll give it a 'piggie' :)
added on the 2002-03-05 11:44:44 by funktion funktion
i don't think that it lacks originality. the metaballs (okay, i might be a little bit mad about them) seem so fresh... the music also is somewhat chll / kickass!

the blob strikes back! refreshing is a good word, raver... a short, sweet, tasty intro.

Pretty bland.
added on the 2002-08-13 08:39:19 by nf nf
I disagree as to it being bland. It had some effects which I don't often see in windows demos. Maybe in Amiga demos, but that's a different story.

each individual scene is really well designed and the effects look kewl and manage to be somewhat arty without any overlaid bitmaps or (much) text.. in retrospect i admit the design of the whole kinda lacks.. but its still one of my favorite 64ks.. great music too..

Alien prod !
My favourite part is that with orange metaballs+plane (clever env-map!) with the background (the outlined circles in the bkg are quite cute).
Metaballs ate sceners' brain.

the music is hammer, especially for 64k
but for the the graphics, fewer, maybe only one tightly coupled scene would have been better imo
