Nice except for the aliasing.

Not sure what to think of this competing in the 4k exe graphics, as it's rather an effect.
Result is pretty cool.

Cool, I didn't know that there has already been another nearly-identical prod in the past. So please believe me that this is not a ripoff -- I just had the same idea toxie had two and a half years ago :)

like mic said too bad there is no alias but rocks nodaway
rulez added on the 2007-12-30 01:22:53 by Tigrou Tigrou
- Similar concept done before, no antialias.
+ Visual process of making-of. I'd definitely love to see this in other 4k procedural gfx.

More positive than negative, though.

what toxie said ;-)
what src and toxie said and not what auld said.

Yes similar to that one but I also like how this one shows the drawing steps progresively.

Looked too much like a zillion tiny intros, not like a piece of graphics.

what src said.
cool, but looks like rip

"drawing steps" = multiple runs of instant radiosity but using different samples? (did i win something now?? ;)
added on the 2007-12-30 21:21:19 by toxie toxie
toxie: Sorry, no prize for you :) Everything is drawn in one pass, but some symmetries are used to speed it up at least a little bit. The drawing steps are shown when 33, 67 and 100 percent of this pass are finished (or continuously, if the graphics card and driver play nice).

What las said. But it's still good-looking and much more aesthetically pleasing than Toxie's version, so thumb up.

I like it, even if Toxie made it first. These are two very different approaches, interesting. Could you explain a bit how it works? (we only know it uses the gpu). Thx.

despite what the nfo says, it's antialiased here (gf7950). maybe the rest of you just need to force it in your driver settings? also, it's nice to see the creation of the screen.
rulez added on the 2008-05-04 04:06:28 by phoenix phoenix
iq: In fact, it doesn't use the GPU all that much. All the heavy lifting (like computing the ~100 AO samples per vertex) is done on the CPU. The GPU only does some additional diffuse/specular lighting and rasterizes a few million tiny quads. It's all pure OpenGL 1.0, no shaders anywhere. The post-processing step (noise and lens flares) is also done on the CPU.
