First! :)

2nd ;)
mac port or pdf please.
the quality is there, the quantity, alas, not so much, but i'll quietly take part of the collective blame for that - nice edition :)
5th.. going to read it now and comment later ;)
THANK YOU!
Pdf or html please. It's highly annoying that a thing that could be easily made available for a larger target audience has been suppressed in a crude manner.
Forced CPR given for an old magazine format in the era of widely spread internet.

i would have never have sdone this to pain, but why the fuck doesnt the sound wokr? i get error mesg
waffles, shiva: it works fine on parallels, wine and what else there is. pdf and html can't have music ;-)
...and kudos for the Hugi staff for actually comprehending the fact and releasing their articles also in HTML format.
rudictive: a bit more details please.... for example, pain is not tested on vista. also, if you switch of the sound effects (which you should probably do anyway ;-)) you might have less troubles on some systems..
unlock: This is just criticism against the magazine's format. Not whether it can be run in a way or another. I also prefer to read without the audio turned on.
For beeing the smallest magazine on the demoscene in size :)
Great to see a new issue of Pain again..
Waffles: you can read hugi to at bitfellas.org
perhaps pain can be added there to..

rulz
Seriously, those ASCII charts are pure bullshit. Same as this article on "how to get laid" in 1 lesson. I really feel like this pain release got down in quality compared to others. For your information, Kenet left Rebels and Fairlight.
Reading up right now ... articles seem to be fun and quality, so is the interface. Music seems not to suit my taste at all tho (had to turn it off).
unlock: i get an messageBox saying: PAiN error: EXCEPTION: '- error loading sfx(article)! (samples have to be 8-bit mono wav)'
rudictive: yeah, it's somehow related to bass.dll. just turn off the sound fx in the config menu you get when starting pain then.
mfc71.dll - seriously guys, make this retard proof, i keep installing fonts'n'dll's every time i wanna read pain... ;s its a pain! :D i found the interface horribly plain ;/ music got on my nerves after a few minutes.. but a nice read, and that what its about.. gonna try out the 'how to get laid in 1 lesson' now.
Truck's paper about "being serious" is simply awesome. :)
The opening picture is great.
The music is not really my taste.
Rulez nonetheless.

whoops ... i fucked up..
but as usual .. <3 PAiN

the music is totally annoying, none of the tunes are suitable for a diskmag! as for the content, not bad but not that good either. And Dipswitch, if you write about old Amiga groups, please try to respect them by NOT totally f*cking up the name of the members! Deviltronic? WTF, seriously! He was called Deftronic! Anyway, the rest of the articles were ok but not that interesting for me except for the interview with GGN. :) So thanks for the release but I expect a better issue next time. :)
omg, one nickname spelt wrong... o_O
...
...
unlock: i want the music but it gets the same error and the SFX is disabled :(
woah. i understand you got lives and stuff and shit like that but this was barely better than hugi. anyway thumb up for quoting me without asking! (btw. i don't mind)
okay guys, for troubles with the engine, just send us an email with a detailed error report and we'll hand it over to the coder. maybe it will get fixed ;-) then again, it's the same engine since years, and it worked okay, so it's probably your windows that has changed. as i said, vista is not tested...:-)
yes!
i dont have vista. i have DX9.0c installed on my XP Pro. my DSound doesnt support hardwarebuffering if thats something.

That's exactly what I mean. I knew you would react in this arrogant way. But either do your stuff properly (and as you are one who starts to complain about things like wrong file_id.diz in archives f.e. you should totally NOT react like this!). And it's not like Deftronic was an unknown coder so I do not think it's asked too much to spell his name right. Specially not when you in the same article make fun of that TV program because they spelled Kefrens incorrectly! Take it as constructive criticism instead of being offended.
you should stop arguing about musical styles whereas yours can't even match up with jazz or similar.. stingray.
i also ain't arguing around about music in other products just because i don't like the genre.
it's everyone's personal taste, yeah. but i don't talk the crap down if it has sort of a quality.
you've been talking down music of the last 3 prods i've looked at. the music in this H2o product was for exsample pretty well done,
who cares about the freakin genre ?? ..
anyways .. be happy having some sound of Optic in some products.. :-D

I've not read many PC mags but this was awful.....just horrible!!!
Except for track 5, the music was totally unsuitable, the design was so plain and mundane which matches the overall flow of the articles.
Maybe some people feel passionate about the articles but from a personal viewpoint they were so boring, they barely related to the scene and there was no point of feeling to them.
What happened to the scene soap opera that used to exist in the Amiga days! Arguments, shit throwing, exposes and scandals...and humour!

I am sorry Teis that I again did not write that you made an übertune. And who's arguing here? Yes, you, just like last time. That's all I have to say. And where did I say the music was not well done? It can be well done and still be annoying and not suitable for a diskmag. But I guess i am wasting my time here because you don't understand me anyway. You should check the comments here and you might notice that I am not the only one who didn't like the music. Just accept that tastes are different and people can have opinions that differ from your point of view. I am looking forward to having exactly the same discussion with you again when I next time write that I don't like a particular music.
hm to be honest I quite miss some 'demo' reviews. I find these articles very interesting to read (what people like/dislike on a demo). I'll read the rest of pain when I get some time, so piggy for now...
nah stingray, i didn't argued because you don't like my particular tune, i meant in general. i would have wrote this even if i wouldn't have had a tune in this production :) i will try to make a tune in a stile you like next time ;D (was is das, idm??) ..
Well the tunes are a bit odd (in a diskmag context or not) but i liked them also i liked the layout, i find it much more readable than the previous white text on dark picture one.
Also one can hardly complain afterwards about the content of a prod when one could have potentially increased it's quantity & quality without making oneself sounding rather lame.

hitch, thanks for typing down my thoughts ;-)
navis: demo reviews got lost somewhere on the way to our mailbox. they are typed but didn't reach us in time. probably there will be a v1.1 or something, we'll see and we know they're heavily missing.... sorry for that!

teis: check my comment here and you'll know. :)
thumb down for arguing against ppl who dislike it,
pain!
Has looked through.
Pair interesting articles has found.
Music awful (at switching on a track number 3 music becomes silent and it is not switched any more, that however even is good)
White background - the unsuccessful decision. Atmospheres it is not created.

this issue was kind of rushed to meet the tum deadline, sorry about that. we'll probably do a v1.1 and improve quite some things for next issue, both in the engine and in the content.
some external articles would be nice to motivate the rest of the staff though. hint hint hint.

some nice articles, *especially* the one about getting laid is just hilarious. otherwise: what all said, music down, interface ok, texts yeah (some of them)
Just ok, the design seems a bit outdated.
Honestly I didn't find this issue interesting at all
Nice, nice, nice and there are several interesting articles I'd like to read (I have first read Truck's article on not being serious on the demoscene and I have to say that I agree and taking the scene (and also my life) too seriously is what killed me in the past), the music is either strange or stops but who cares, there is a lot of nice articles to read..
for the effort
Decent articles. Lacks a bit on design, and the music does not fit a diskmag, in my opinion.
music odd for sure, but i liked it coz it filled up my boring evening.
thanks for that
(you should probably just skip the ascii-artist-charts if they're merely voted on and thus allowing complete cuntchops a ridiculously good placement.)
i liked this issue. truck's articles were fun to read, dip did an interesting exploration and stuff about art festivals or oscar fischinger is what i want to read most these days. also i liked some interviews and serbian scene history, of course.
Honestly I think m0l0 is just jealous because he didn't get with the elites league! Suck it up and make better ascii next time m0l0- !
nice diskmag! Music may not fit. But most of the tracks are great as standalone!. nice you have the music files in the archive! The articles were also plesant. I had 2-3 hours fun with this mag!
reference the Bloodrinker interview .. who else can remember the "littlepinoccho" intro? :) Loved that!
back to the mag - not a lot of interesting stuff here.. nice to see a new issue, but please be more careful when selecting the music! :)

better than hugi!
Sir Garbagetruck's article spoke volumes to me. Not the best mag I've seen, but kept me busy.
Cool mag, I like it. And big greetings and a happy new year to Unlock !!! (And also happy new year to all other sceners!). Technical problems: None, runs fine on my Pentium4, Windows XP Home, 1Ghz, DirectX 9,0c and X1950 graphics card.
good diskmag.
i liked gfx.
good some article.

graphics was ok
music was pretty bad, i liked one of the tracks and thats was pretty much it.
i found the textual content to be rather dull, nothing that really caught my interest..
so all in all, this had nothing i really enjoyed, sorry but a thumb down..
(and to whoever said this is better than hugi, i have to disagree)

unse3n you finnish ass. i'll send my polarbearsquad to sodomize you and your family.
Bohoo :D I didn't start screaming when I didn't get into charts.
guys, those ascii charts are totally ridiculous anyway, why bother? (probably they shouldnt have been published)..
I think they were pretty realistic as the real ansi/ascii scene is dead. I mean I don't find any single demogroup nfo without Dipswitch ascii. Aren't there any other ascii makers anymore? Did they all die in when amiga(aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa) died ?
uns3en: No, there are also CoaXCable and DiamonDie. :)
pointless
unssi: boozoholics demos usually have ascii art by slummy
Can't make it work on my computers :( It just won't start. No error messages, no blank screen, no nothing...
A lo-fi version would be kinda cool.

Some awful music, fortunately there's also couple nice tunes too. Looks nice and there's some good articles(specially liked the ones by truck) so here's my thumb.
jailbird: what systems did you try it on? actually, pain is pretty lo-fi already (i.e. no 3d opengldirectx stuff required) and usually the same engine worked just fine on windows95 back then, too.
Unlock: Celeron/X800/XP (asks for MFC71.DLL, but refuses to start after installing the lib), P3/S3 Trio 3D/Win2000 (simply refuses to start). But just got it to work on my shitty laptop, so YEY! :)
it's nothing pleasant to me. sorry
Final version, continue commenting there :-)
music is weird for a diskmag but ok for me. articles did not rock that much this time. but really nice to see this quality diskmag hanging around.
There are more and better articles in the final version ;)
