this is our very first attempt at 256b, made in just a few hours out of some old C source biff had flying around on his harddisk

Dunno, I'm not really impressed. I'm sure there are ways this could've been done smaller. And you don't really need to uninit the graphics. In pure DOS you'll leave the user in graphical mode, which is not dangerous at all. In Windows, the program will just close anyway.
So my thumb has to go this way, sorry.

nitro2k01: I know that resetting the graphics mode isn't necessary, but ... well ... there were some bytes left, so I used them for something that's not completely pointless :)

To me filling bytes only makes sense if you end up at the exact bytelimit.

you can easily add some color (just read the oldpoint on screen and add to the new one)
(with some tweaking can give really nice results)

and anim (modify you coeffs and redraw)
still there is still some byte
I had exactly the same idea for a 256b one year ago(with multi fern, anim and so) but I give up

C'mon. It deserves a thumb up. Not just for being a firsty but also for the nice execution of the effect. I know this could have been done in a smaller size but this effect is still acceptable for 256b.
