From http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=4363 :
"although [...] you really should not put pictures of yourself into your demo, this demo is really beautiful."
Seriously: This demo rocks through its "nearly-impossible-to-do"-effects. Probably best code on Amiga.

The first 68020 non AGA demo I have ever seen. Preety cool! I remembered I have heard the music somewhere else (Spectrum?) Some parts are crazy, like the one with 1 color wireframe or something landscape..
fårking fast
this one rules because of the frantic rythm, lots of great effects, good gfx and finally a good tune
awesome! which you cant really tell from that screenshot
This one just never ages. Fantastic music, awesome code, cool graphics, creepy atmosphere, and fucking HUGE!
Awesome.
One amazing technical feat! Not just a typical coder demo either; this actually rules in all areas - like most Sanity demos.
ohh yes.
gotta download a new uae - maybe now all effects work :)

I recognized Chaos / FR full coder quality. Nasty effects for an Amiga. Excellent fast´n´furious techno music. Excellent pixel works.
CTULHU !!!!
CTULHU !!!!
kickass demo.
Amazing and classic demo with some of the best pacing I've ever seen. Jester's kicking soundtrack keeps things moving (one of his best, certainly), while the demo lets you breathe for a second during the slower and lower-key maze sequence. Otherwise, beautiful Amiga effects one after the other with cool art throughout.
"fuck reputation" :)
Probably on of the greatest demo on amiga !!!

Roots Final
Roots Final
This one is a true masterpiece of coderporn! I remember being amazed by the tilting rotzoom in the first version at the party 94 and thinking "Ah, it had to be Chaos who finally killed this effect!" :)
Good final. <3
Tremendous soundtrack.
Some nice code here and there ;)
Some nice code here and there ;)
I remember trying very hard to make this run on my A500, but I think I had too little memory and 1.3 and a bad disk image and who knows (: Have seen it recently on real hardware, and of course it rules.
at that time everybody wondered who cthulu is
So..fine *sob*
Not ahead of its time when released in 1995
like Arte demo in 1993 but a GREAT demo anyway!!
like Arte demo in 1993 but a GREAT demo anyway!!
A GREAT demo, no doubt. :)
ouch!
worse than roots 1.0, but good
Worse than 1.0? You must be kidding... Totally awesome demo, best Sanity demo ever! Beats Arte!!!!
Nice oldschool trip.
Great effects.
I like the M.C. Escher inspired "Symmetry Drawings".

didn't comment on this one yet???? well this demo sums up so many kicking effects that it hurts: just think of the tilting rotator (triple trouble tribute), morphing dot objects, dot voxel (a rescue on fractalus tribute), a big and fast texture rotator in second part and as a "finish him" the face morpher at the end. Lots of nice pics and textures and good music provided the topping... I would dare to say that this is a really good way to test wether an amiga has all it's chipset in fully working condition ;)
Probably my favourite "oldschool" demo. Wtf are those blue/cyan mountains?? theyre a bit too fast for what they do. I wonder what kind of algorithm that is.
Great!
I wasn't kidding
some effects are the same of arte! and elysium
i prefer original demos, not superbrilliant demos with copyied effects :\
btw, there are also some really well done effects in the no aga part
sanity kicked asses :)

Nice :)
but the divx quality sucks like hell!

Yeah!
Simply rules! This is sublime coding of the Amiga, very impressive. I am curious as well: what is the algorithm behind those blue/cyan mountains?
One of the bes Amigademos ever!!!
Corial:
(jeg skriver det på engelsk, da andre måske også kunne få gavn..;) )
When I made a similar effect, I did this:
First simulate the line-grid and put each y values per x pos into a sorted buffer and make then a vertical filling.
Then plot the line dots on another bitplane using the line-dot-buffer to decide which points are visible or covered. (simple y-pos compare)
Thats how I did. I guess Sanity did something similar...

How could I forget a thumb up???
a bit slow classic demo.
But amazing.
nice.

great thing!
i wondered a bit about the kthulu gfx ..
very good stuff - for that time ;))

awful demo with impressive effects
groundbreakingly huge with some of the best music around
This is the reason the Scene is dead!
You can't do this with the lame hardware you have today.
It's one of the most colorfull demos I've seen. Maybe not, but it's very colorfull and happy, with some great effects.

I bet if the crew behind this got active again they would kick all pc lamers ass!

One of the best demos ever made!
I like the unforgettable music by Jester a lot.
The graphics by Ctulhu are fantastics.
And the routines by Chaos are among his best works on Amiga.
The general atmosphere is great! Rules!

What a splendid demo!
In case the person who uploaded the new video capture to scene.org reads this: I did not replace the old version in the amidemos mirror because I'd rather not touch the mirrors. Instead I moved it into the scene.org archive, it's now linked by the "video hires" link above. If you really want to get it in the amidemos mirror, just contact me.

insane rotzoom!
classic
OF COZ!!
Some truly cool moments here
great in every way - especially colors in Cthulhu gfx.
Somehow I've managed to miss this, but now it's already a new favorite of mine!
It is one of the best OCS Amiga demos. Simply rules.
Great graphics
awesome! All that runs on a ECS Amigar500?
Anyway, great to see a smooth Rescue Of Fractalus effect in a demo :)
grtx,
\twh

twh: no, the first part is aga - it'll be skipped if you run it on an ECS/OCS amiga. and the second part (starting from "sanity, roots, no aga") also needs a 68020, i think.
hell yeah, awesome!
great demo!
a great one... yep asaf this demo needs a 68020 but was the last ?!? ECS Demo.
Super
Super
Much better than the compo winner.
:)
Bit of class
:)
This is simply the shit!
"so better remember your ROOTS before you reach the END."

Lovely paintings!
Sanity!
the effects are simply jaw-dropping
Needs more thumbs.
Fuck reputation!
Anoher thumb for my favourite(and the best;) group in the first half of the 90's
What wayne said ;).
Terrific work.
Just watched this one on the original hardware and liked it despite the impression that the first part was more or less only one effect - only altering some textures and LUT's
Love the graphics from Cthulhu...
Better than Roots
Woo, finally found a disk with the second part working. Particularly like the cherry dister.
classic in your face branded effects with great art and music. Should have thumbed a long time ago.
The final version of the demo that introduce a 1x1 fullframe rate rotozoom !
When I first watch it (Roots 1.0), and saw the rotozoomer I was thinking: oh yeah Chaos is the one that has made it !! (At that time a big competition was to do the best rotozoomer).
Worst when the rotozoomer start to rotate on a second axis I remember loosing my mind !
Chaos, pushing the wall of impossibility far far away :-)

Wow, this one is so catchy and fast-paced it doesn't let you go until the very end!
Yes!
it doesnt get better on the amiga, really.
One of my favourites for Amiga!
Any chance of a working download link?
Excellent!

What a classic! Pumping 4-channel soundtrack.

grosse shit !
Amazing. Especially love the AGA part.
FAST & FURIOUS!
Nice ride :)
Woah! Well... Great effects, code, graphics and music all tied together into a fireball that just comes straight at your face!
IMO the Non-AGA (second) part has better effects and music than the first part. Still, overall it's an awesome demo!

One of those demos you can watch again and again... forever.
True classic and a well rounded masterpiece.
I N S A N I T Y !
Cool! :)
Great demo!
Epic demo. An absurd amount of good effects + graphics in here :D
Cool routines in this one. I'm not a great fan of the paintings and some parts in the music are overrepetitive, but it's quibbling over details. A great demo, and as TomoAlien said i like the 2nd part best.
Great demo, I didn't know that this demo can be played on OCS.
Demo or die ;)
Unbelievable good demo. Perhaps the best Amiga demo ever. Top-notch code, I have never seen such creative ways of misuing hardware to create something great before and after. Together with a perfect Demotune and action from the beginning to the end coming at high pace. What a ride...
Deepest respect to everyone involved.
So guys, remember your roots. Remove the dust from your old Amigas, and do it again!

Nice effect-trackmo with good graphics and kickass music :)
The non-AGA part (last half of the disk) requires full ECS A500+ or A600 (1MB Chipmem) and the 68020 accelerator with Fastmem to run.
Youtube clip, high quality (ECS)

Sound was stripped, this is OK.
No comment needed!
just so fucking good.
Absolute rules. I guess, 3d plane scroll is made of perpendicular stripes and every texel equals to single palette entry, total 16x16 256 texels?
I never liked this. Some quite alright effects but drenched in awful looking coder design and some of the worst demotechno music ever made.
Some ugly colors alright, but apart from that: What a great ride! Love it.
metapouet brought me here. damn what a nice tune. i like the gfx.
Awesome.
And here we go !
Good old times )
I like the still face graphics
It's ok... code is good, but design and colour choices are terrible!
One of my most popular demos back in time... I am Amiga (1200) user since 1994...
anniversary thumb! love all the effects inside and those scanned paintings
Works great on my ECS Amiga 2000 (w/ A2620 14MHz 68020 accelerator w/ 2MB 32-bit FAST RAM on board)! Glass smooth.
Energetic!
This is the purest demo-coding from the first to the last second. For me, this demo is the peak of "old-school" style with no need for acceleration cards. People still discuss how some effects are done even 20+ years later. Chaos's last work on Amiga -- what a testament!
An excellent demo by my favourite Sanity members (Chaos, Jester, Cougar). The music is very mid nineties. The gfx by Cthulhu had to grow in me, but 17 years later I really dig his fullscreen pictures in this demo. Al in all, a fantastic and entertaining demo.
