sources are included, you will have to compile yourself linux and mac versions (and it will work on all SDL supported platforms...)

How can this be "Copyright 2004 Knights" when it blatantly uses ripped graphics?
Haha, funny. Only the endscroller should be faster.

Glad to see you're still around, Gautier! I just had a look on my DeluxePaint directory, and the very logo used in the intro is from August 1996... old memories :)
About the intro... nice colours, nice mood, good synch with the happy chiptune. Refreshing compared to all those darker prods. You can't go wrong with Smurfs ;)

where's the drugs?
"oldschool" doesn't always mean "the music is annoying and the fx are outdated, but it's cute so it rules".
added on the 2004-09-04 22:01:49 by dixan dixan
Why always trying to categorize things? Nobody claimed it was newskool/oldskool and rocked because of that.
It's just a 64k intro, without slowly rotating envmapped abstract shapes nor flybye/stupid poetry/technoïd-eurodance softsynth music (obviously not "outdated" yet, people seem to ask for it, again and again)
Imho the author tried to do something different from most 64k intros and I think he succeeded.

Ripped (commercial) gfxs/bad chiptune/empty concept but cool fractals texts.

the smurfs suck. they are blue! therefore whether or not this intro is newskool or oldskool it motherfucking sucks! Carebears ownage!!!!
sucks added on the 2004-09-04 22:28:24 by post malone post malone
keops: of course "it's fucking subjective", I appreciated the tryout (no thumb down whatsoever) but it still looked kinda weak to me. And for the "oldschool" labelling, well, it came automatic.
added on the 2004-09-04 22:32:29 by dixan dixan
dixan: fair enough ;)

(at least you watched it before commenting it, unlike someone else on that page who admitted he did not even bother watching it...)

some oldskool effects are done in a nice way... overall a quite good prod, although the music gets on my nerves really fast and made me turn the sound off.

Sucked! Not much oldskool feeling here - Has oldskool become and automatic card blanche for thumbs up? This one doesn't have it IMHO.

It`s smurfskool!

I would've thumbed this down if it wasn't for the cool smurf/spine twister effect, which is the only redeeming feature in this intro. This production left me totally cold. Same boring plasmaballs as everywhere else, unimaginative chiptune, ripped graphics and disgusting wannabe-cuteness. Blah.
added on the 2004-09-07 12:59:00 by Preacher Preacher
funny.

One of the few nicely presented oldschool fx demos. At the beginning I was thinking "Wow! Another cute software demo" because the effects made me think so but then I have seen by the source that it's accelerated. Nevertheless, it doesn't change my impression much.
rulez added on the 2004-09-08 17:40:28 by Optimus Optimus
so knights are back? good!

Agreed. This intro is a rather mediocre comeback prod, though. It actually reminds me of older j-f-f intros, just with smurfs instead of bunnies. :)

Defies unwritten laws of demomaking. I don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing, though.

can you release a mac binary? i don't feel like installing the sdl stuff right now :)

The music is annoyingly catchy, and the twister + recursive text effects were cool.
rulez added on the 2004-10-23 20:39:46 by SiW SiW
Music is downright horrible, graphical presentation and effects are quite stylish and excellent. Fits!

dyld: /Users/sebastiankinner/Desktop/sc2 can't open library: /usr/lib/libSDL-1.2.0.dylib (No such file or directory, errno = 2)

<-Shit happens when you need Exact SDL 1.2.0. Actual version is 1.2.8... "OS X Support"

Maybe i'm first Betatester? =D

The aforementioned OSX port is missing one part completely. Here's a fixed one that's clickable:

i'm not much for smurfs or the tune in this, but i really liked the oldschool feel with some nifty effects. Definately a keeper. And worked fine on osx, so i guess i got the fixed version.

nice, I'm happy with the mac port too.
