Experimental project, in order to see how much we can fit in a demo in just one day.

Yes.. we brought em.. =)

Pretty good for one day demo and i liked a lot that it didn't look like dreamchild or edge of forever.
Good job guys keep up!!!

it's a fiiiiinaaal countdooooooown :DDDD

nice. typical but nice. (typical as in, same old chordprogressions, alphablends, transitions, etc. :)

Excellent music, kickass design+effects.
I really dig the flow, congrats.
Extra thumbs for the ending! :)

a bit boring but goodlooking enough. the music didn't fit the demo though..
added on the 2004-05-09 17:03:21 by gloom gloom
Incredible!!! This is the first demo I've seen where all the effects scroll as one with seamless transitions. Like all previous ASD demos the design and direction is flawless.

And to compile something like this in one day is phenomenal!
rulez added on the 2004-05-09 18:33:17 by Wade Wade
damn.. it uses a refresh rate that is out of range of my monitor's capabilities..(I think)

As has been said: the (lack of) transitions is brilliant. Music sounds a bit cheezy to me (though judging by the final 2 seconds you already know ;-) )

extra ! nice designs, nice music, and a little humor at the end with the final countdown... we like this kind of prodz !

IT 0WNES!!! IT SHOULD HAVE RANKED 1ST!!!

i love the cheesy music and the cool design!

but it stutters on my P4HT/GFFX5200/Sblive machine. :/ please fix!

By far and away ASD's most solid and stylish production.
rulez added on the 2004-05-10 01:20:59 by mulambo mulambo
Tomaes: this was not coded at the party place. It was actually built 2 months or so before the party. One noon Navis came up with the idea of putting the one day limitation and see how it turns up. I scratched my synth for a while and had the music ready after about two hours (and that's why there's no variety in melody and parts). By around midnight the basic part of the demo was ready. After that, we spent about a week bugspotting (like the c++ timing bug) and writting the .nfo file =)

Oh, and it is a mutual agreement among ASD to only release final versions (unless there's some serious bug that slipped our sight) so I really doubt there will be another version with more content. Of course you can wait for our next demo.. pretty soon I'd say =)

loaderror: the refresh rates that eon uses are pure standard to be compatible with all monitors (and most importantly.. the projector at the party place). Make sure that you haven't explicitly set a refresh rate in your gfx card driver's control panel.

eye/midiclub: I've tested eon on my Athlon 900 with Geforce 3, and it runs smooth. Did you run programs that keep writting on the hard disk while watching the demo? Like distributed computing (Seti, UD), or file sharing progs (e-mule, kazaa and the like)..? Or it might be a driver problem?.. I can't see really any reason for stuttering.. Eon is very lightweight for today's standards...
added on the 2004-05-10 01:37:36 by aMUSiC aMUSiC
The scrolling style was cool. I like the look of the part with the stipple pattern background the most.. The "light rays" adds a lot to the looks aswell.. Somehow the notes in the tune remind me of the group Air's style. :)

I dont think the spring-behaviour adds anything to the effects. I want more short consistent prods like this :)
rulez added on the 2004-05-10 02:07:44 by loaderror loaderror
You, misters, are very good.
As to expect from ASD the demo is very consistent and this time there aren't even any transitions which could be smooth as hell :)
The tune was nice to listen to but not outstanding.

rulez added on the 2004-05-10 13:35:14 by zeebr zeebr
Well,. I didn't enjoyed it that much at the partyplace (a scrolling screen, blended stuff, but nothing mindblasting), I have a better view upon it now I see it for the second and third time though, I like the flow and the music very much. Most polished demo at ReAct2004! (Others were a bit unfinished or coded on the party place :)

One day? I wish we could be half as productive as you =)
rulez added on the 2004-05-10 13:58:40 by Optimus Optimus
Love it, and i really liked the tune.

Some wierd white line glitches in the upper right corner when the background is black(ie very beginning and end) unless they were interntional?

9800XT and latest drivers.
rulez added on the 2004-05-10 14:40:28 by Intrinsic Intrinsic
Hm.. I noticed that on the big screen at the partyplace too... and the compo machine was running on ATI as well.. No such white line glitches under nvidia cards.. Anyhow.. it's minor and It's not hindering the viewing experience me thinks..
added on the 2004-05-10 14:55:52 by aMUSiC aMUSiC
Well, normally ASD has too many different ideas in one demo - this one, being rushed, has just the right number. :) The flow between parts is much smoother than before. The music reminds me of Vincenzo/CNS's work - again, much cleaner than previous ASD music.

Oh, I forgot to give it my thumb! Here you have it, you really deserved it! ;-)
rulez added on the 2004-05-10 15:07:04 by ekoli ekoli
hmmm, i didnt dig it. slow pace, little fx and nothing kickass... so piggie! nevertheless more enjoyable than the demo that won react.
Eminently cool, but I get the same weird glitches as Intrinsic (Radeon9500, latest drivers). A bit jerky as well, but hey, it rocks.
rulez added on the 2004-05-10 16:36:11 by sagacity sagacity
i REALLY liked this demo!

Skaven style music is a little bit outdated and boring althought, i would prefer something more 'fresh'... (that not means that the music is bad!)
rulez added on the 2004-05-10 17:52:59 by nEC nEC
Skaven style.. lol =).. I'd take that as a compliment =) Anyhow.. I really don't believe that Skaven is the copyright holder for Lead Synths =)

reptile: until a few weeks ago my card was GF2MX400, downclocked because else it would crash. :>>>>>

aMUSIC: it seems to stutter when the framerate drops under approx. 10 FPS - like many other FMOD based demos do, unliike BASS. No, i don't have any distributed computing or filesharing. Only things to try to disable would be an AntiVir PE/XP runtime and Hyper-Threading CPU - i give it a try on occasion. GFX drivers are 53.04 - i have to use this old version because else one game does not run. :////

The image is good even in top-optimized mode.
added on the 2004-05-10 18:08:09 by eye eye
eye: HT causes no problem to it.. it's tested on a 2.8HT cpu (gffx5600) and it goes smooth also.. Hm.. it seems that some kind of configurations have trouble with fmod.. could anyone possibly point out what would that be?
added on the 2004-05-10 18:14:40 by aMUSiC aMUSiC
nEC: I was watching this on the big screen and thought exactly the same thing: This sounds alot like Skaven's tracks :-)

Anyway, the music was very good and the concept quite original and polished. It came second to Sense Amok's "Negative" because the latter was more energetic, but technically Eon should have won. Doesn't matter though, what matters was that React3 was a great party! :-)

Very nice prod from ASD, although I definitely do not consider it in the same quality class of any of ther post-97 prods. It had design but that was never my first concern in any demo, so I really prefer the sense amok prod from all react '04 prods. Still terribly impressive for a one day work, extremely impressive I should say

Hello.

Glad you liked it, as it was just an exercise in minimalistic demomaking. No 3d here, just a canvas with a few effects.

Our next demo is scheduled for Asm 04. I will follow the edge of forever/dreamchild tradition. Will we ever make another EON ? yes, why not. :-)

Navis/asd.

i don't see how this demo differs that much from Edge of Forever, or Dreamchild... smooth transitions, slow-paced effects, and overall nice visual quality :-)

It makes me think that a significant part of the code is a copy/paste from dreamchild, but apart that, the demo is a classical "ASD Demo" :-)
Nice work, but... more of it next time ;-)

ASD Forever!! Again they have showed a touch of class with great music design and code, Navis shows off how code is always in flow and synchronize right through to the end.. ASD deserve more respect these days, they should have won more awards at Scene Awards 03 for Dreamchild..keep the quality coming guys.....And at ASM04.

It's an inside joke for THS, after saying that the music from Dreamchild was cheesy like Final Countdown from Europe or something. Anyway something like this, i don'a have a good memory after all.
