- diskmag Windows Hugi #35 - Disruption in Chaos Theory by Hugi [web]
- i guess the offending article is already gone, because i couldnt find it in the mag. completely sad that it was included in the first place, but not entirely surprising (see: adok). the inclusion of this piece alone makes the editorial team look at best like idiots, and at worst like hate mongers. and actually i pity magic for having to backtrack like he did here.
so, it deserves a thumbdown on that alone, but lets try and be fair and judge on the rest. ill give you some kudos here for trying to improve the design and move it forward, and its nice to see more pictures/photos.
sadly, the interface seems like a kneejerk response to zine - basically copying as many superficial ideas from zine as possible to do easily (like section headings, a headlines section, large images for article headers etc), but completely misses the point of it.
imitation is the highest form of flattery so maybe we'll take this issue as a big complement - but i wish youd find your own way. even if that way is oldschool diskmagish, its probably better to find your own ideas and do them well than copy others and suffer poor comparisons.
articles-wise it's pretty similar to previous issues, although again the contents appear to be very zine-inspired. magic works hard to try and talk to the "right people", but when he does the questions he asks are often inane. adok's and diamondie's pieces are as "good" as ever. some decent contributions by e.g. navis make up the content worth reading.

- cracktro Windows El Matador 1.1 by Skid Row [web]
- enzymer: the thing is, some of the guys who made cracktros back in the late 80s/ early 90s did bring something new to the table, they had ideas about design and so on. some of those guys had talent, and wouldnt be seen dead pulling out the same thing 20 years later.
thats the problem with nostalgia - when it simply copies the superficial look and sound, but completely loses the spirit and the point of the originals. - isokadded on the 2008-10-17 18:58:10

- demo Windows MacOSX PPC 1001 Nights by Rebels
- its alright, but it's style seems like it came straight from "late 90s demo design by numbers" - 2d over effects. sometimes it can still work, but in this neither the fx or the 2d are particularly inspiring.
music was pretty good though. - isokadded on the 2008-09-28 15:22:55
- demo Windows passing by Still [web]
- for some reason still demos are getting worse each time, not better. the visuals on this look like one of those one-day mfx productions, but they would have skipped the horrible "3d" scenes like that newyork skyline.
the music's alright though. - isokadded on the 2008-09-28 12:41:20

- paniq: bwhahaha, i didnt realise your "unbeaten" motionblur technqiue was the old gl-accumulation-buffer-example method of "rendering the scene shitloads of times". :)
