- demo Linux Windows MacOSX Intel 1976 by Damage
- Quote:
AMD: I'm sorry, but unfortunately I don't know what's wrong there. I also don't know how to check it properly. I developed this demo myself on MacBook Pro M1, and the Windows version is only cross-compilation (and yes, in addition to the Windows version, you can also download the version for macOS and Linux). However, several people tested it on Windows and reported no problems.
PEBKAC here, turns out something went wrong with unpacking and some of the shaders were 0 bytes for some reason; redeployed, everything works fine now.
It certainly fixes a lot of the "why isn't stuff moving!" aesthetic issues that I had on the first run; I'm still not 100% sold on it cos I can't decide whether there's a theme here (and I don't think there is) or if it's just a mess, but there's clearly some effort put in there. - rulezadded on the 2023-09-04 16:55:08
- 4k Windows Love among the stars by silvia
- Aww, that's very cute, looks okay, sounds okay (strange time signature though? or am i getting confused by an upbeat?), doesn't overstay its welcome, well done. (Only minor gripe is that it crashed instead of exiting.)

- demo Windows Critical Mass by Futuris [web]
- On one hand, great visual quality. On the other hand, that's kindof a starting point with UE, so nothing surprising. What's left is some decent music, some good design and while it doesn't overstay its welcome, it doesn't exactly peak either.

- demo Linux Windows MacOSX Intel 1976 by Damage
- So I watched this and there were so many things annoyed me about it, but the more it went on the more suspicious I got that something is bugging out on my box - and sure enough a quick glance at the capture shows that it really REALLY doesn't work correctly on AMD :/

- demo Windows Onset by Suspend [web]
- Love most of it, aside from the wooden character face and slightly awkward beginning - and of course the fact that it's Unity makes me very sad.

Well, if you know how to package an HTML demo so that it would work on a PC, I'd be glad if you could help. As a newcomer, I'm open to a little assistance. Mind you, I didn't have a PC with me at the partyplace at all.

Quote:Are you always this friendly to new people making demos?
Are you new though? I've known you in the scene for ~10-15 years, you have credits going back even longer, and more importantly you've been in the Meteoriks jury judging other people's work on the merits of visual quality, direction, etc... Surely you should be able to tolerate some heat just on the basis of that - walk the walk, and stuff.
Quote:Do you ever wonder why demomaking is a disappearing art form?
Is it because it's easier to watch the Youtube version than the real thing? - isokadded on the 2023-08-28 13:47:43
- demo JavaScript Das Färjan by Proxima Centauri [web]
- - 700MB download, because the whole demo is in there TWICE (good lord), not to mention each instance includes the music twice (so a total of 4 mp3s), and a bunch of 4k normal maps stored as HDR(?!?!)
- starts by trying to INSTALL a webserver, but provides no configuration to actually run the bloody thing
- 4k textures (good) with awful UV maps / texel density that ends up looking lowres (very bad); at least bake some lightmaps as a second UV set or get some SSAO up in the place.
- Impact
- initially a promising interpolation of the Das Boot theme that after the first minute or so sadly ends up staying on the general MIDI sound quality and completely ignores the "dramatic" action that's on screen
- no attention to detail - smokestack fumes underwater, console screen smoothscrolls text, you can see the edge of the water plane
- completely misplaced pacing where the dramatic peak action happens at around the 3 minute mark, and then the prod just dispassionately waffles around for 2 more minutes.
i'm sure the response will be "but it's just for fun / you shouldnt take it seriously" but i don't buy that excuse. - isokadded on the 2023-08-27 16:54:21
