Great stuff.
Pleasant to watch with a great, to me, almost Amiga-like feeling.
Nice Interference by Sanity as well as AntiAtari song by Fluffy Bears references (among many of them).
1976 rulez ;)

14 years after FLTs blunderbuss particles/pointclouds seem to have reached the mainstream of demomaking. what a pleasent surprise.

also extra kudos for the multi plattform approach

In 2029 we will have no gaps between the particles.

a strange mix of really cool modern stuff and kitchy things, nice work overall

So I watched this and there were so many things annoyed me about it, but the more it went on the more suspicious I got that something is bugging out on my box - and sure enough a quick glance at the capture shows that it really REALLY doesn't work correctly on AMD :/

lol, so someone actually DID pointcloud half of poland, i just joked about the wrong demo :D

Dubstep train! Kind of wished it had continued in that style, but it is still cool the way it is. This demo may cause particle shortage now for the rest of 2024. I predict the particle prices to go up and this may affect the sloty trajectory before we get a cooling effect in the blabblabb..

Mainstream particles and faux oldschool kitsch indeed. I do feel that perhaps they are too independent, though, which makes the particle effects a bit boring at times (also, they seem to be statically lit, which doesn't work for me when they move). But hard not to thumb the large amount of content in here.

Particles! So hot right now.
Enjoyed this one a fair bit!

It's a great "demo demo". Nice effects and soundtrack and super cool particles and all that, and the credits scene gave me a sweet flashback of Iguana's Heartquake with the water thing and morphing faces (one of my favorite demos). I will thumb all that up.

However.

I felt absolutely let down by the shift in the mood after the beginning. The start of the demo felt like a wistful, autumnal poem and something totally unique in style and mood. Then it suddenly turned into boom and untz and ksssh and tsudum and faux oldschool and all that. If you'd cut it to the part where the train leaves the station and the demo title is shown maybe milked a bit more of the mood, this would've been a CDC for me.

Thank you for all the words of praise.

Some comments...

Python + GLSL: I know, quite an unusual combination, but ultimately I enjoy writing code in it. There is also a simple rendering engine on the way - Panda3D. Compared to Unity or Unreal Engine, it is more of a toy, but it allows me to easily arrange the elements of the scene (in Python), and then my own shaders in GLSL come into action.

References to old demos, including Interference/Sanity: I love stuff like this, I'm an old Amiga guy after all. How old? The title of the demo explains it all, right? ;-)

Holes between particles: Yes, I know, they are there. There is a bug in the demo that causes black holes to get bigger at higher resolutions. I have already minimized this problem in the YouTube version.

AMD: I'm sorry, but unfortunately I don't know what's wrong there. I also don't know how to check it properly. I developed this demo myself on MacBook Pro M1, and the Windows version is only cross-compilation (and yes, in addition to the Windows version, you can also download the version for macOS and Linux). However, several people tested it on Windows and reported no problems.

Inconsistent design: Well, kind of. Because first there was supposed to be a demo in the style of angels, cemeteries and churches. Then we added an intro where the building is falling apart (this is the place where previous editions of Xenium Demoparty took place for years, which ceased to exist this year - I know this story is a bit insider). And finally, it turned out that Xenium 2024 would have a "trains" theme, and I remembered that I could easily scan several interesting objects, including a fancy steam locomotive, so we also added trains. And again, the title simply results from the fact that all five of us were born in 1976 and there is really no point in looking for any deeper connections, especially with the cemetery! ;-)

PEBKAC here, turns out something went wrong with unpacking and some of the shaders were 0 bytes for some reason; redeployed, everything works fine now.

It certainly fixes a lot of the "why isn't stuff moving!" aesthetic issues that I had on the first run; I'm still not 100% sold on it cos I can't decide whether there's a theme here (and I don't think there is) or if it's just a mess, but there's clearly some effort put in there.

Fellow 1976-er here. :) Totally LIDAR-rific, with a bit but not too much nostalgia thrown in (the nixie tube year counter was a nice touch). The train part reminded me of ASD's Rupture a bit. The head credits were pretty badass.

And dammit, stop thumbing up your own stuff! :) You can be proud of your work, but it still comes off a little vain.

Thank you for the information. Good thing it works though. :-)

As I wrote, there is a theme, but not one, but several. In a sense, a little mess. In this comment, at the end, I explained where it came from.

Thank you for your words of appreciation. :-)

I actually thumbed up myself when I wrote the first comment, but it turns out that simply because Pouet set the reaction for me by default. I'm not very active here and I don't really understand how it works yet. Sorry...

For those who are curious: It ran on my Linux (Ubuntu 22.04 LTS) machine with Lutris / using Wine (fullscreen). Hardware: Intel Xeon / 8 GB / Nvidia Geforce GTX 960. Couldn't figure out any flaws but I am probably not as experienced as the other 99 % here :-) Thanks, Damage. (I am 1974).

THank you!

You can run this natively on Linux. Unfortunately, I can't ask for builds for Linux and macOS to be uploaded to scene.org. They can be temporarily downloaded from my Google Drive.

:) i dont often see demos in their true form b/c im always on linux and too lazy to boot USA-DOS 10 when im reading the morning paper here (and there). Fyi this runs flawless on linux mint 21.2 (rtx3070/i5/32) at 1080p and linux mint 20.3 , the ancient dislodged devrig (xeon i7/ gtx 970 / 16) at 4k uhdr.
The hexagonal confetti pointillism sure sold me, i was thinking what if degas, monet, toulouse but apparently its Van Gogh would have seen this where it would have taken him. I had one scanline there but i bet thats the 50hz monitor on 4k , glsl sure is an amazing thing and with this i guess ill have to accept "you can do stuff with python" hehe, all the shaders are in there bare too, no wadfiles or anything. This might just be my personal favourite of the last pack iv been seeing here

Wow. Amazing visuals and excellent flow.
The color scheme and looks very slick.

The typography is not my cup of tea, though.

100% what phoenix said, the second half with all the Amiga/demo references ruined the atmosphere for me. Still a weak thumb up for the tech.

basically what Preacher said - it feels like a mish-mash of at least 3 demos tucked together, which sadly drags the whole thing down, because it has a LOT of nice content
