- thank you all for the comments so far...
Quote:Why is this in dutch though?
it's german. at the beginning of the project i had the choice of doing this in english and thus opening for a larger audience, or choose the language of the people watching this on the bigscreen, to increase the emotional effect. you know that words in english sound more distant and less associated with imagery when it's not your mother tongue. i will add a translation.
Quote:Great music, great pace but the lyrics are too emo for my taste.
the demo is not, as shifter called it, a "typical german angst" demo, but it describes the dissolution of the ego, induced by e.g. consciousness altering chemicals, followed by a love poem to existence and time that in the end violently pulls the spectator back to the political, economical, religious and ecological problems of our time.
Quote:English subtitles, please!!! :)
yup, will be in the final.
Quote:The title clearly refers to the loading time. ;)

Quote:but the message - well, starts off with typical paniq lyrics and the end part was just a TOO cheap shot. seriously.
i couldn't have done it any other way.
Quote:Note to paniq: please wrap the "import psyco" call in lib/nedu/demo.py in a try...except ImportError: pass section for the sake of compatibility -- running slowly is better than not running at all :)
i thought i included psyco in the file - did i forget it? what special error did you get? i agree, psyco is not really needed, it still runs fast enough.
Quote:Secondly, are the shaders really, absolutely, utterly necessary? I'd love to watch the demo on my i915 ...
there is one shader used which does uv scaling to do the "drawing" effect. since i am doing this with a 5mb curved lettering polygon, i doubt that anything in software could be that fast. wait for the video.
Quote:Took an eon to precalc, what's up with that?
you might notice that in a subdirectory, svg sources (scalar vector format) are included. those shapes are being polygonized and outlined during the loading process which takes ages the first time you run the demo. it creates cache files so it loads much faster the second time.
Quote:I love it in principle, just wish it was more accessible..
can you explain that further?
gargaj, great work. didn't have a look yet but i was told it works.
