Does an assembler really have a place at pouet?
added on the 2005-08-31 16:05:08 by Preacher Preacher
i can add 3dsmax7 as demotool too! :D
it's not just some assembler, it's THE 0ok assembler - and bero did really a good job on that.

it invalidates the use of crinkler though. :(

it's an assembler that's written by a scener in his function as a scener and a scene group member- so it DEFINETELY has a place here, just as asm-one.

Dipswitch: Word! Why exactly would demomaker programs or trackers be allowed, but not assemblers? Furthermore, was 3dsmax really created by sceners and released free of charge for scene use? If so, please do add it to Pouet!

As I see it, the whiners have three options:
a) Get the admins to remove the demotool category.
b) STFU.
c) Both of the above.

Creating tools to make creating artwork easier
(even for coders, not only designers) is damn
worth the highest admiration!

Well, any assembler is good in my books

pouet isn't made for that kind of thing.

For me it's a production for demoscene/Pouet.

When I saw the title, I got really excited at the thought of hundreds of new demos written in the Ook! programming language. I'm all disappointed now.

Just for your information, this assembler is optimized for 4k coding. I am using it for something like one year now (first it was a bit buggy... we had to kill a lot of nice bugs). The intro "Die Potenz" is coded with this assembler, also "Evoke Spacerace", "SpaceSharks!" and "Plan B". The 0ok assembler is mainly written for 4k coding, so imho it's definitly a demoscene prod.

"Ook! (with the exclamation mark) is a Turing-complete esoteric programming language designed for orangutans. The language has 3 keywords — "Ook.", "Ook?", and "Ook!" — which can be combined in eight different ways to form the language's statement repertoire. According to its designer, David Morgan-Mar, Ook was meant to be easy for orangutans to learn, and to prevent any mention of the word "monkey"."

hahaha

Certainly looks useful, though it is in dire need of a manual. It would seem that its biggest limitation is that it can only be used alone. Add an object file output option and it will be far more useful, since it can then be used together with C++ code. And with Crinkler. :)

T0A has now COFF object file output.

comments from Maali and preacher are absolutely stupid.
every free or even shareware tools for creating demo have their place on pouet!
3DSMax has absolutely nothing to do with pouet because it is a very (very) expensive tool from an industrial company.

Moreover, Assembler coding is pure demoscene stuff, from the origins (c64) to now.

q*bert, i do not agree. in my definition, _scene releases_ belong to pouet. that means, they have to be scene-related and, most importantly, done by sceners.
too bad there are no really outer distinctive marks for a scene release nowadays, like the usage of ascii infofiles and a specific filename structure and such. anyway, this release is surely a scene release.
