depends on what you mean under MIDI.
A lot of 4k's use GM MIDI sounds, DOS-ones use mostly the onboard hardware patchbanks, Windows ones use either the system32\drivers\gm.dls to fetch some samples from, or just use the WinAPI to play some sounds from it.
MIDI, as in the standard, is used a lot when making big studio-music, as pro-software prefer that. Thus, musics made with Nuendo/Reason/Logic/etc. usually have a relation to MIDI. Not to mention all the softsynths compatible with/based on MIDI.
Also an interesting relation is that the Smode demosys is basically a MIDI-based VJ-tool.

Is a 64k intro, otherwise well programmed, which plays a pure MIDI tune. Doesn't sound too well.

eye: "otherwise well programmed"... Bwahahahahahaha... That was worth a laughter!

That has it! (However, it sounds so crappy in comparison to the DOS version with module)

And there were 2 adlib musicdisks (sound was preety good surprisingly!) by Sanction if I recall well. I found them on a scene site dedicated to Adlib/FM synthesis, with a lot of tunes, trackers and players. Does anyone remember the URL or name of the website?

Chock my sibling! It was actually not that bad. Cloth animation on characters who look like a table cloth over a ball... I found it funny. Nice texture and landscape. Subdivision surfaces.

just something i found when scouring the net

techno on an adlib:
http://www.oldskool.org/sound/pc/sound/vibrants_techno.au

jazz on an adlib:
http://www.oldskool.org/sound/pc/sound/vibrants_newage.au

I remember hearing a demo in the mid 90's that used adlib music combined with tracked music, i think it was by ultraforce

adlib mixed by usual soundblaster digital sound was trademark of the renaissance prods... (and that demo was probably 'amnesia')

adlib can do amazing things (it's a soundsynth, remember?). However most of these things cannot be done with MIDI.

Checkout subzero's adlib tracker, it rocks :-)

The problem is, Adlib is not available any longer on modern devices. When considering a DOS demo, it might be sane though an emulation though...
