Code the DNA

category: general [glöplog]

Why hackers don't try do get into the DNA code and then do some coding of it?

9 months of loading time is a bit too excessive.

why i not english good write say stupid things on internet?

we did once, the result was you, so we stopped.
hahahah gargaj
hackers are to busy riding skateboards 'n rollerblades as seen in the notorious movie..
btw, imagine the precalc time after 9 months of loading :D

is that a loading bar rising or are you just happy to see me?

it may sound strange to you but there is people at least interested in the matter.

I mean... hackers spend a lot of time trying to decode something for totally stupid reasons. Don't you think they could have the skills to add to the research? I know many doctors that won't recognize a flu from something else.

... I know a doctor that isn't able to do this math: 1-1,5 ... she can't tell the result. Still she is a doctor! Can you believe it? So why shouldn't hackers focus on DNA? I think the result can be more thrilling than hacking explorer or something. Which is completely stupid if you ask me.

the entire human life from conception to death was simulated in the game deus ex machina 20 years ago, so why bother? and yeah, it had plenty of dna

this is not about simulation

Yeah, what a great plan, script kiddies messing with the generic flu ;) can't wait ...
bring on the consumer dna sequencer with gigabit lan and usb 2.0 connectors \o/

The Russians had a big DNA hack experiment some years ago. It costed them a nuclear plant.

As you can read in "amazing DNA" article the human DNA is about 3 gigabases in lengh.
Did you ever tried to decode a binary of than lengh only by watching 0 and 1 hum?
Even if you try to decode little segments of the DNA you have to consider that about 97% of the human-DNA is pure JUNK!
(e.g. former viral DNA which was integrated into the human DNA).
Hmmm to boost the difficulty level this JUNK-DNA is integrated into the coding sequences "genes" of the DNA (intron, exon sequences in the article).
It is very difficult (I think it´s impossible) to differ EXACTLY between coding sequence and JUNK-DNA ,only by watching the DNA-sequence itselfe!
The next problem is to find out which genes a activated and which are not. It is absolutely impossible to see that in the DNA-sequence.
Hmmm try to imagine that some basepairs carry a additional flag which can be set (this is called IMPRINTING).
Some genes coding for proteines which alter the conformation of the DNA (architectual proteins)
which raises or lower the expression-level for other proteins.
Some parts of JUNK DNA can influence the activity of promotors (docking station for DNA/RNA copy units)
which changes the expression-level for the proteins of that gene.
To get an Idea how the human-DNA works, it is absolutly necessary to make
biological tests, for a hacker far beyond the means.

sorry for the poor english

you can always (try to) simulate that in a virtual environment.

You need the insights of biological tests to create a virtuel enviroment!!!
Senseless to give a Hacker or even a molecular biologist only the sequence of the human-DNA.
The DNA-sequence alone tells practically nothing about funktion, activity or even where a gene starts.
It could take month or even years (and many many experiments) to detect a new gene!
There are some rules which helpes you a little to differ between coding and non-coding region
or let you assume where a gene starts
but every rule in biology has a minimum of one exception ;)

One thing "Hackers" or Bio-informatics can do, and do, is to develope algorhythms which compare DNA-sequences from different organisms in
databases for example.
See http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/
Or developing software which helpes analyse or evaluate samples e.g.
Hmmm the Cancer thing here on pouet is one example ;)
(hmm sad but true, many Lab Programs are very Lame und expensive!!).
A future task could be to see the interactions between DNA and DNA-assioated Proteins and its influence of gene activity or Cell-Cell-interaction
and its influence of the DNA/gene-activity. Best in vivo but could even be simulated in a virtual enviroment but that requires a better understanding
of the human-DNA. And there is the rub, you need these basic researches and its experiments!

Man I know virtually nothing about the DNA... one thing I know is that anyone can learn and try if they apply to it.
