i think every scene production has art in it,
if we define art like "making some ideas real"
and not "how would the ppl like it"...
art is not judgeable, art is free...
code, gfx & sound r judgeable,
but they r not the art in the production,
they r just parts of the production,
they have to fit into that production, as whole...

Ok, some people use the word art to discriminate good from crap, alternative from commercial, etc.. but that's subjective. And some people may also like things that are supposed to be not art, common commercial shit and stuff. I may like things that are called crap or art, no matter. I get some possitive feeling by watching this production. So? It's art since at least one person enjoyed creating it! I beleive everything is art no matter the kind of it..
But there are some demos which are supposed to be considered art in comparison to everything else, just because they are diferrent, minimalistic, weird, abstract or something. Though some seems to me that they use this kind in order that people think they are something special, while they are just nothing to do. Chimera, Codename Chinadoll, Satorri prods, wireframe flat trends, etc.. most of them I didn't liked at the time, perhaps cause I wanted to see code that time and was bored watching them and I have even thumbed them down. But sometimes they catch my interest too if I watch them in another way for another reason. Perhaps in the future I may understand even Chimera but today to watch some redblack absurd poly's moving slow like hell doesn't appeal to me. However Chimera was a nice interesting experiment, to see the two sides, people who don't understand "art" and those who do. Because it is the most minimalistic lamelooking thing that artsy fartsy people seem to admire, while looking totally crap to people of my kind who don't understand "art" :) A totally bad looking thing that surelly would discriminate the people in two kinds. In the Chimera thread, I could see now the people who thumbed it up or down. I can figure out people's personalities and demo preferences in it. It's fucking interesting to take a look at the Chimera votes of each scener!
Anyways. But there are demos in my opinion who have both code and art and feelings, without having to become minimalistic with uncomprehensible scene bogetry and stuff. These demos combine both good code and design. Pure things that both abstractartlovers and coderwise sceners would enjoy. If I could share the word "art" to some demo prods, these kinds would they be. No just only code, no just only minimalism, but both. Perhaps not that abstract, more piecefull feelings for my taste. Depends..
