AI is forcing the hand of the Demoscene.

In that case sorry for not realizing the context you said this in; but this also means we're on the same page here, albeit coming to different conclusions.I realized that there is often a pattern that if any form of demoscene creative output is not endorsed enough, its instantly shunned. Meaning, even if you make something not intended to follow trends, or just to do what the fuck you wanted stylistically or whatever wise.
For the sake of the small zero reading comprehension crowd above let's first clarify that what I said above was meant as a general statement, not specifically aimed at AI in demos. I never said using AI was not "lame". In fact, a mostly genAI demo would most probably earn a thumbs down from me, if I'd even bother to watch it, because why spend my time watching anything that nobody made.
What I'm saying though is don't let detractors, well, detract you from anything. Yeah, what you said is true, reception can be harsh. I'm absolutely no stranger to getting shat upon for not fulfilling people's expectations, and yes, it hurts. But what I've also learned is that's not really important. If you do something mostly for yourself nobody can take it from you. And the community at let's say a small party is way stronger that here or any other place on the wider internet, so do it for their enjoyment instead.

Yeah, but why would you advise someone to go with it nevertheless? Isn’t it a bad advice then?

Wow dude, what a heartwarming statement, I really mean that :). Thats absolutely something I needed to hear for 5-6 years. Its why I had pretty much stopped doing anything demo related for that time, not just personal mental health shit. I felt if I cannot keep delivering demos as best as I could for my effort, its not worth trying. These days I just wanna release something I know that I put a decent amount of care into, not "compofillers" or basically the code version of shitposts. I just wanna feel that buzz again of actually doing something reasonable. Again, I never want to compete or win things, I just always wanted to make things exactly on my own terms. In my own time.

We really need to have a drink together again (if only to trick you into doing SID again) :o)
Srsly, do whatever the fuck you want. Even if people LIKE ME will tell you it is lame and sucks. It is your's, not mine, or anyone elses. All that matters is that YOU enjoy making it. If you embrace AI - go for it, full force.
Demos i have made have been called "trainwreck of a demo" right here for that matter. And i have won compos with demos _I_ thought were pretty lame and even went outside the hall at Mekka when price giving took place, because i was ashamed of winning against basically no competition with this shit. And at the time i made those things, if i had AI to help me with this and that. OH YEAH.
Who cares

And as I realized, even when you don't use AI at all, which is my experience when doing the posts, just make the prods anyway like any old artwork, which is how I approach my physical art, and I guess is how I should approach demos now too this year. The people that like our stuff will like it, screw the rest and make demos about it anyway. Don't let people on Pouet of all places tell you how to do what you find fun, whether it be code, art, or music.
I guess that was my takeaway even if not using AI and hitting a deeply personal wall of self-expectations.
@kb_:
I need to write this because I'd like to avoid possible misunderstanding. This last episode above went something like this: A dude comes asking if doing the ThingA™ is a good idea. First, some people tell him that "No way man, it's a horrible idea. Don't do it." You come and say "I agree it's a horrible idea but you should nevertheless do it." Then, a bit after that, you proceed calling me out for "always being the contrarian". (The insults you added I actually appreciate because they seem to be truly genuine. And they're telling). So. You call me "contrarian". It shouldn't be that hard to see that you're kinda being the "contrarian" here. Instead of real, genuine advice which was kindly asked of you, you give this oversimplified Disney life coach pose. I'm suspecting that at your age you just gotta know that oversimplified "12 rules for life" type wisdoms ("follow your own path my son, said in a James Earl Jones voice") can be cool but they are just not how life works. General principles are not "rules for life". And it's a crappy advice, it's like saying "Yeah, putting diesel fuel in a petrol engine is a bad idea, but you should do it because it's yours." Whaa? Plus it's condescending. You were asked for advice as an equal, but you respond as a professor, a tutor, like some kind of life coach. In essence, you said "your idea is bad and I know that because I'm profound, but you are not, so you should just go with that idea". You were asked for a genuine advice, but you offered tutoring on how to live.
I apologize for basically making one point in a few different ways. I don't want to sound condescending myself, I just want to make sure the meaning gets through.
@groepaz:
You were too lazy to even come up with your own Disney style life coach pep talk sticker wisdom, so you just quoted. I swear, it's like you liberal pose bros™ have dogwhistle keywords to which you must respond. "Gatekeepers" being one. It's like you get zombified and go like: "BRO USED KEYWORD. BRO GOOD. MUST SUPPORT. OTHER GUY BAD." Or like you're LLMs that had been "aligned" in the same facility. Oh yes, and you love saying "fuck". Screw that. Just think. Just. Think. From occasion to occasion. No preconceived models. No need to go all tribal.
Cheers.

Wild demo as "look what I did by using AI". Ok. Like an experiment into something new for the LOLs.
But incompatible with the spirit of the demoscene.
I used to lament people using Unreal/Unity for demomaking, but at least I realize there is some respect that it still requires effort to do something with these engines.
With how AI is sold, people become so lazy that they expect everything served in a plate, soon they will ask if AI is so smart why cannot it not predict what they already thinking and write the prompts for them.

I thought the scene wanted craftmanship, not idea people…
4gentE: nobody gives a shit about what you think. g
GenAI is ruining the internet and software in general and with nothing decent to show for it. People that use GenAI are terrible people and we should yell at them and call them names.

but how many more hints do you need before you drop the douchebag act?

lol, this kind of strawmanning and your general wordsalad gishgalopping makes you look even dumber, hth. The holier than thou attitude indeed doesn't help you either. You seem clueless and determined to make us know that lol
you did make me post on pouet again, which i already regret, so you got that going for you

The only one who "thinks" is spouting wisdom into this thread is you.
@okkie
Me being whatever anybody thinks I am aside, do you have ANYthing aside from insults, posh (key)words you poorly understand / misuse and “lol”? Cause I, historically, sure as hell haven’t seen anything else coming outta your orifice around here.

yeah see, you are doing it again. it's so boring man, just stop.
You really are not helping yourself here. Maybe it's time to touch grass and reflect on why you aren't getting along with anyone?
