What would it take to integrate pico-8 player into pouet? And how about other emulators?
category: general [glöplog]
Watching demos on YT is pretty underwhelming and setting up emulators on PC is not always straightforward, search for emulator, search for firmware, adjust settings and in some cases search for startup instruction, all of this can waste some time.
I really don't expect positive answer, but I'm curious to know if we will ever see such a feature in the future? Because the case with romhacking.net only proves that things that don't evolve are doomed to die, sooner or later.

Demonstrate that it is possible and gives good results (as others have pointed out, don't forget seek support). Then commit to maintaining it, and send a pull request on GitHub.
Embedding DOSBOX for old DOS demos is totally doable (archive.org already does this for old games/applications).
does the player really need to be integrated in pouet or is it also okay to add an "online version" link to the prod? (see https://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=80444 for an example)
Having it integrated would be much more convenient than relying on a link that may die at some point.
I'd rather have people watch my demos on YouTube than on the Pico-8 browser player since the versions of the browser player that correspond with the Pico-8 versions the demos were made on don't play my demos correctly. Perhaps newer versions match the functionality of the desktop client better.
yeah so i guess you folks just pointed out why it's not going to happen
