What's with the history revisionism on (only) Pouet? :D
category: general [glöplog]
Other Demoscene sites have no problem with this.
You (I guess Gargaj) have recently blanket replaced platform requirements for all Amiga OCS 1MB demos. This is incorrect.
The odds of an Amiga demo requiring OCS are a (quite accurate) 5:25000, while recommending ECS specs gives the direct opposite ratio of success - and also speaks against the platform requirements of Amiga demo compos of the past 30+ years, and future Amiga demo compos including Revision. By all means prove me wrong, give me a single Demoparty that has held an Amiga ECS democompo.
I attended the party in picture, and I know the democompo would not allow a demo that required ECS, and I know the prod supports OCS 1MB which includes ECS. It's not a difficult concept.
Now please don't undo and put OCS/ECS. :) Just put OCS 1MB instead. We've been waiting a couple decades for the big event. It will be accurate and the exceptions can be handled easily.
All love but it's also difficult when you make it more difficult than it has to be and it's in fact simple. <3

This noticed from a passionate post about a prod.
Checked my own BS and it seems you allow some parties to enter platforms that basically don't exist, but perhaps more importantly don't match the boing ball icon. (I.e. Datastorm, let's you and I have a talk Spot my friend...)
Anyway, here's another one.

How about we recognize OCS 1MB on Pouet finally? :) It would be proper, more inclusive, and actually apply to the thousands of demos already uploaded, i.e. history correctionism.

have you been drinking again photon?
@havoc, check the upload form. There's no way to select compo: Amiga OCS 1MB demo, or platform: Amiga OCS 1MB.
This has always been the platform for those compos, and all types of Amiga compos. They have not been run on ECS Amigas or has required ECS even in mixed compos with AGA.
Maybe one day an Amiga ECS demo compo will be held, but it hasn't happened in 30+ years.
Platforms: A handful of demos have targeted ECS, compared to 25000+ OCS 1MB demos. For about 1 year circa 1988, demos and compos targeted OCS 512k.
Crystal ball says that in this case, left with no OCS 1MB choice, Datastorm orgas thought Amiga ecs demo was the closest option. And all but a handful non-AGA Amiga demos are OCS 1MB, but all of those have gotten the OCS/ECS tag slapped on since the start on Pouet.
There is a way to fix this.
+ add compo: Amiga OCS 1MB Demo.
+ find occurrences of compo: Amiga ECS Demo. Replace with above.
+ replace platform: Amiga OCS/ECS with Amiga OCS 1MB.
+ add platform: Amiga ECS. The handful of ECS demos can be handled with Fix me Beautiful.
Then all existing information is instantly more correct, and uploaders won't have to modify compo and platform on submission. It will also support Amiga ECS Demo compos if and when those are held.

Are you saying the Amiga platform needs to be subdivided?
What exactly was changed? Hasn't there always been a common non-AGA category that only contains OCS prods, except for a few outliers that require more than 512 kB chip memory?
introducing memory requirements to compo and/or platform labels is just a really silly idea. i can kinda see how from the very narrow perspective that you are arguing it might make sense somehow but clearly you haven't given a lot of thought to the precedent this would give to other similar change requests and the implications thereof.
While we are also on the subject of platforms a good feature would be to indicate the original platform a prod was made on, and then the platforms it was ported on (see this for example, mistook it as a PS3 prod but rather it's an ipod one).
if the title of the prod was somehow not clear enough of a hint you could maybe consider to read the download links before clicking them
Not much of an issue just saying! Concerning the Amiga OCS/ECS issue Photon is right, most demos use the original chipset but that's not a big issue in the end of the day. :)
Pouet could keep the icon and rename "OCS/ECS" to "OCS", add an "ECS" category, and the few productions that require ECS, more than 512k+512k memory or >Kick1.x can get corrected over time. However I see the responsibility for keeping the platform together rather with the parties than Pouet.
can't wait to hear your ideas on how to do the same for MS-DOS
Technically speaking this semi-happened by having a separate category for the gus card. :)
but was that a good idea? we gotta live with it now but hmm well
No, I'm not in favor of super-splicing platforms either. Causes too much problems with searching for prods, archiving, etc.

just add a new category: "fo DOOS!"
also: clickbaity title is very much click-bait
Congratulations on challenging my suggestion for Amiga categories. Only took you 17 years. ;)
While Blueberry's idea was great, I think we could actually improve it and make only 2 categories:
- Amiga demos that Okkie likes
- Amiga demos that Okkie doesn't like
- Amiga demos that Okkie likes
- Amiga demos that Okkie doesn't like
Lol

dammit, how are we going to blame Gargaj for everything if you insist on coming here with your "facts" and "evidence"
One thing that i can agree with Photon out of this nonsense of a thread is that the compo names on pouet should not be hardcoded, to allow the compo organizers to write the compo names the same way they announced it the invitation / results file. Currently they force us to pick out of a list that more often then not does not include the exact compo name we wanted.
I'm not sure what was the point originally to keep it hardcoded on a list, some sort of way to keep things coherent i would guess? But it doesn't really have any practical advantages since you can't even search prods or parties by competition name. Demozoo is a bit more flexible in the compo naming and thus managed to avoid Photon's whatever-the-hell-this-was by just allowing people to choose "Amiga A500 Demo" on Datastorm 2014.

But what if someone has an ECS A500!?!?!?
@absence, glad you asked! Then you can add some more RAM, a harddisk and perhaps be able to run this: https://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=67956

The usual way, I guess.
