TRSI - hot 0 dayz
category: general [glöplog]
a very pointless discussion tbh. these discussions were already lead in the 1980s and 1990s, with the same arguments. back then just as now, people releasing warez could not care less about what other people think about it, and i am sure the trsi guys who released this game (who are, as far as i know, not the same people as the trsi guys you see on demoparties) also couldn't care less about what you think of them, and will carry on doing what they're doing. the pirate scene is a closed circle which does not care what outsiders think; they don't do it to provide lamers/gamers with free games, but solely to compete with their peers. just like illegal graffiti artists couldn't care less about whether you find their bombing beautiful or not - it's a competition with the ~50 other graff freaks in your city, nothing else. so, you can be mad about it, you can curse at them, you can find it morally wrong, but this won't change a thing, and we'll lead these discussions for as long as there are commodified digital artifacts.
however, they could have at least done a trainer, or a previously unused intro... without it, it's just a stunt to please the ~20 people who still frequent amiga telnet boards, which will be forgotten after a few days.
indeed, add some value or gtfo =) although this is hardly a new argument, either. :)
i wouldn't buy this game anyway, so thanks trsi for quick release, downloading now aaaand done.
The respect.

actually i didn't download the game. i don't play amiga games these days ;)
athanor ii looks great btw, so kudos for that.

also i've bought hoffman's "the cave sessions" on vinyl even if i don't like most tracks on that album so...
What TRSI could have done was to tamper with the free available demo version. Put in a trainer, "vandalize" the graphics with some TRSI tags or whatever and in general encourage people in the cracktro and nfo to go to the website and purchase the full version.
Pretty disrespectful that too I guess, but at least made with some sort of love :)

...by copying an NFO next to an unprotected ADF? Is that the level nowadays?

Indeed, that would have been a thing. Plus trainer with an unreleased brand new "crack"tro. If a BRAND new game must be released by a crew, at least release it with a STYLE!
"0 day" does not mean anything these days, imo.
I think dipswitch has the best grip on reality in this thread.
Dip repeated exactly (in his words) what I wrote a couple of entries before ;).
He must have said it in a way that grasped the core of my being then :)
Don't confuse "reality" with "status quo" - reality changes over time depending on what you do. If you don't like something, you can act on it.
What's your idea of "acting on it"? Calling the police? I don't mean it in a disrespectful way, just genuinely wondering how you want to act on a phenomenon that's around for ~40 years and has never been rooted out.
I dunno, but I bought a copy even though I don't own an Amiga.
Honestly, in this case it seems no real harm was done other than a sign of disrespect, so maybe this thread is "acting on it" enough - establishing that the demoscene community mainly thinks this was a bit of a dick move, and that anyone outside a small clique of warez sceners clinging to the past more likely finds the whole thing embarrassing than cool or impressive.
What is important to know that today's Amiga and C64 releases are more for inner circles, then on the P2P network. To leech'em one must know the dudes.
It is faster and easier to d/l the demo, and decide (in a trainer way) "BUY THE GAME [YEAH/NEAH]" ;).
@Dip:
I think (imo) Gargaj was saying "you can act on it" in a more global point of view. What - I admit personally - I appreciate.
But here, as well you can act (althou in a limited way). For ex: Do not let yourself irritated (too much) by the phenomenons you can not change. Or pay the authors a "symbolic beer" via PPal.
And if this particular phenomenon (what was - in my personal opinion in many ways - interesting) can not be rooted out, this topic has no sense since the very beginning (pardon me djh0ffman) a part of having hurt author's personal feelings...
@El Topo:
Hahaha. Cool you have a nice sense of humor =). Kudos, man =)!!
@all "Funny fact":
While I was buying the game, there is an IMPORTANT note asking for your all personal data which states:
The 2015 VAT MOSS regulations for EU has the following URL (how many of you have in fact checked what is it for, btw?):

yep! close thread imo
So it ends just like all the other historical forum threads on that topic, just with different actors. =)

Why so? Different opinions on a matter should always be heard even if we don't always agree with them.
After watching a playthrough of the game, it is pretty evident that the developers did an amazing work and to be honest, it was a trip down the memory lane of the classic beat 'em style games of the 80s/90s, they definitely deserve to get paid for their work.

Indeed. ;)
A subject to read/write with a cup of coffee, express some emotions and... move to another subject.
Life...
So let's take a look at this as we have a mixed bag in here.
Here's my view of the world...
Devil's Temple coding time was 14 months, time I could have had with my 7 year old and wife, yet I chose my hobby and platform that I love.
Lots of frustrating nights writing 68000 assembler, particularly around fitting the game into a 1mb machine. There are some crazy techniques it uses to make it work like a game back in the day. Then there's the project management, working with the awesome real creative demo sceners and professional graphics artists to get the best out of the project.
In February of this year I lost someone to cancer really close to me... they are mentioned in the game, I nearly gave up but decided to carry on.
Then, on release day... TRSI were the 7th digital download (earlier if you believe the sysop was supplied it by McFly) and after a couple of hours it was uploaded and spreading.
What was supposed to be a a time of celebration for the day was turned into sombre affair, I wouldn't have minded if TRSI had waited 24 hours or so to at least have a little bit of a celebration.
So with that said, and after some reflection I've decided that everyone can enjoy the Northern Palace BBS in all of it's glory (AmiExpress full installation, configs, logs, doors, uploads - everything..).
So to get the old ball rolling, here's 800GB's worth of what I would call retribution...
[...]
(and yes TRSI/sysop/Zinko - I have everything from the Synology DS1821 & DS1813 in the Northern Palace), but you can thank my wife that I didn't factory reset both of them as she sees the best in people...sadly I often don't.
And be sure to know, I'll be moving on to other BBS's so it's probably best to your shut your crap down.
TRSI just got #pwned #retribution.
Not exactly protectors are you???
