Demoscene IRC channels
category: general [glöplog]
Anyone got some good ones?
What little activity is left on IRC that hasn't moved to Discord is on IRCnet #revision
yeah you're 25 years late to the party :P
#c-64
hacker culture (FOSS-development) is so much better in this respect...
several groups and parties have their own channels, often on IRCnet. you can play the guessing game... party related channels are often active mostly when the party takes place.
#scenesat @ EFnet is active during their radio shows (bridged to other protocols as well)
then there are some non-english channels

Amstrad CPC people (the ones still on IRC) are in #cpc and #cpc-fr on irc.libera.chat
ZX people are in #z80 on ircnet, I think? I should reconnect there.

yeah, few of us still hangs on #z80. as already mentioned, #revision have some activity, no idea about other channels.
Last time I checked, #pouet.net, #coders and #pixel on IRCnet had some activity, too.
#suomiscene on IRCNet for Finns
there's also #atariscne on IrcNet, mainly focused on ST/STe scene, good place if you wanna discuss hardware/software topics
If you REALLY want to old school it up, log into my RemoteAccess BBS like it's 1992, then chat it up on IRC using the IRC Door. :)
Telnet (SyncTerm recommended): bbs.dsbbs.ca:23

Don't forget to check out what's currently playing on Nectarine using the Nectarine Door!

IRCnet #demoscene is your secret gateway to Discord but they can't tell you to shut up from there. Money can't buy this kind of power.
Thats actually great
#scene.no on EFNet still exists and is fairly active (mostly in Norwegian, there's the occasional Swedish/Danish/English when someone visits).

#amigascne (it's not a typo)

ircnet as a network sucks, features wise.
There is ircnet2 which comes with better features, starting from SASL. check it out: https://www.ircnet2.com/
Discords of this world come and go... I will bet IRC (v3 and with mandatory security/privacy features set on on server/network) has still some chance to return among its renowned niches.

But can I connect with IRCnet2 to #C-64 on IRCnet?
Nope, it's different network with completely different setup/technical rules, you'd need to move all your community there.
there may be other, more modern, more stable networks but IRCnet is still the way to go for IRC sceners these days. its not like were getting younger, eh?
having that said #atariscne ist also still active

Yes, by all means, lets take an archaic and niche way of communicating and spread that out n+1 different servers for maximum discomfort

The irony in this post.
Right, Gargaj? :)
At the end all social communication platforms are disappointing over time.
Every new we find is cool because we're tired of the [put your arguments] in the old one.
Only to realize the new one over time is the same shit and we miss [put your arguments] of the old one.
But we eventually just carry on... so all that platform choice it perhaps, meaningless as long as real people know how to find other real people meaningful to them and chat.
But never the less I'm impressed that such a dinosaur as IRC tries to self-modernize itself.
Not long ago I thought this battle is long gone.
T-101:
Last thing I'd assume that anybody from this community will go anywhere from where it stands :)
All I tried to write above is there is some evolution in the landscape IRC(net) represents and put it in a context of Discord that will eventually shittify itself to the level people start considering next big thing to talk through..
I already gave Discord a mental killswitch tbh, I get way too many ads based on what I type there obviously decipherable connection and I don't like it so I minimized my traffic there to nonsense... more or less just like here.
