greets graph

category: general [glöplog]
has anyone previously tried to build a database of what group greeted whom in which demo? it would be fun to explore a comprehensive greets graph and how it evolved through years.

Not sure if it's a good idea or not... hmm
I'm looking forward to the "fuckings" graph too. :D

I think Janeway actually has scroll text data for Amiga demos ;)
Sounds like a project to do during a pandemic :)

should check out all the NFO's too then as I try not to have any greets in any prod I'm in (well at least https://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=76259 didnt have any if I remember right)

Imagine doing OCR on text shown in a demo. Colorful pixelart fonts, deformed fonts, text drawn as 3d shapes, text shown behind a 3d object. Maybe it can be a good CAPTCHA to check if a human can read the text. Can the text be extracted in an automated way?

Also funny:

* friend-index: how many greetings minus fuckings per prod did {group | scener} receive?
* crowdpleaser-index: how many thumbsups minus thumbsdowns per prod did {group | scener} receive on pouet?
* pricemoney-index: how high ranked {group | scener} per prod in compos?
* namevoting-index: how is the correlation between pricemoney-index and crowdpleaser-index for {group | scener}?

:D

GreetRank. Which group is the most elite of all, by means of weighted greets per demo.

Another complication is that sometimes greets are for abbrevated group names, or even worse, logos.

so like a wordcloud per year, to see who got greeted the most across time?

sounds .. well I was about to say "fun", I'm not sure I would find it a fun project to carry out, personally :) But I would find it interesting to mess around with an interactive visualisation on a webpage, and I'm sure it could lead to some new insights

in keeping with scene spirit, this would need to be categorized per kind of greeting though, as a freeform edge node description maybe. this way fuckings and explicit non-greetings and regus ademordna and the likes can be marked as such.

i think it's possible (if you don't need your life anymore), but the main problem is abstract greets like "greetings to all sizecoders" and even "everyone i forgot"

I once thought of mining group names from the Amiga scroll texts I had archived to build something like this, sadly never followed through. Could be interesting.

Gephi would totally work for such a graph visualisation (with groups as nodeslinky, and - optionally - weighted by the number of times greeted).

Not sure if the data can be realistically collected.

Maybe with crowdsourcing, with a per-group approach to simplify.

This would probably be a hard-to-oversee graph with many crossings.
added on the 2021-04-09 13:09:08 by Adok Adok
It shouldn't be a graph, it should be a stat. A website (e.g. scenegreets.net, why not?) with groups/sceners as pages with stats like "how many greets this group got" and "how many times this group/scener greeted other groups/sceners", probably with a list of prods with full greetings list from demo or info files.
It also will facilitate the task about greetings to abstract groups like I mentioned b4.
