art in the family?
category: general [glöplog]
How many of you grew up with art in the family? My father is a musician and pretty everyone on my ma's side were artists. I get a lot of my skill from growing up around art.
only as far as demoscene can be considered family =)
But I certainly try to pass on stuff to my own kids

i grew up in art, but wasn't even interested on it when i was young, till college where i met friends who was painting graffiti
My parents were both ballet dancers.
My grandpa was an amateur painter.
My auntie could draw spiderman and my dad could draw this unique fisherman with a pipe in profile by just a few swirly lines.. very intriguing.. My brother could draw G.I Joe and Optimus Prime headmaster edition.
My father was a publisher, bookseller and writer. He wrote "Me in all simplicity"; a series in 12 volumes.
my mom was a doll maker and sculptor. i didn't get to know my dad but have always kept a notebook of his with some of his drawings.
both my parents were teachers, only art exposure at home that me and my brother had was listening to abba, queen and michael jackson on the stereo.
Both my parents were at sea, so I have waves in my hair and water in my knees.
My father was an undercover insurance salesman, instrumental in uncovering the great reindeer decoy scam of 1983. My mother worked part time at a letter factory and invented the interrobang. From an early age, I was tutored in jungle survival skills and how to grade platypus eggs.
My uncle is a musician who used to play keyboards/synths and had all this cool Roland gear. My mom translated books and used to doodle while talking on the phone. And my brother once made an awesome piece of multimedia glitch art when he accidentally spilled some Sprite all over the rear panel of our family computer.
lots of pianists and other types of musicians in the family. though, I'm the apple that did fall far from the tree, I guess, being a coder etc.
My mother was a painter, sculptor and a pianist.

Made my day :D
My whole family can play the piano (more or less),

the agony of an artist.
*scnr*
nope, no art and no software engineers in any vicinity here.
my father was working at EDF (the national electricity company), not an artist (even if he was skilled to craft wood objects) but he was interested in computing very early, so he bought a computer in the early 1980 (a marvellous Commodore PET 2001 he still own), and then a C64 and an Amiga, so you can easily understand how I discovered the demoscene :D
I still remember when I had something like 5 years old, my father bringing me at some guys place and spending the whole day copying floppy disk, as a child I was bored as hell seeing the sectors copying one by one on the screen 🙈

My mom worked to the french ministry of finance, my father had his own record company. I used to review the new musicians he distributed in France on saturday evening drawing on my atari. I discovered industrial german music ( Die Krups) and some more obsure things. The music from Shad II is taken from a CD I reviewed ( COPTIC RAIN).
As I learned when looking at old documents, one of my great grandfathers was a painter. My father was an electrical engineer so he had some interest in technology, but not in art.
i am obviously from a famous painters family

Father played drums in humppa/waltz/rautalanka band. Had access to every instrument from the day I was born. Chose drums first at around 5 years old, then keyboard and so on. Still can play most of the instruments :) Mother also painted a lot when she was younger, father drew with pencils.
Both parents were Physics professors.
