Red Sector Megademo - Vectorballs

category: general [glöplog]

When Red Sector did their Vectorballs back in the days I wondered ...

Are there other vectorballs in other demos that used animated graphics for the balls like Delta did in his version? Look at the effect. These were some of the first Vectorballs on Amiga and I think they are still the best. No other Vectorballs I know of came even close to this.

I, member of TRSI nowadays, think, Kefrens, Silents and Anarchy had animated BOBalls before! (most remembered, there must have been more groups even!)
(It´s just an answer out of remembrance, though!)
BOB = Blitter-Object! (Blitter being a Co-Processor of the Amiga, able to copy pixels very fast onto a plane of Memory, maybe being the screen-memory, if in luck! ;) )

As far as regular "bobs" with animations, they were done by several others before, such as DOC with Demons Are Forever already in 1988. As for those 3D "vectorball" ones, hmm good question..

I think the famous intro "Demons are Forever" by D.O.C. (may 1988) is probaly one of the first intros/demos using animated vectorballs.

Vector-Balls Demo by TomSoft should be the first with animated vector bobs (?) (April 89)

Also check the Unreal intro by the same guy.

Thanks for your suggestions so far. But to clarify things here ... I don’t search for vectorball-demos but for demos with animated bobs/sprites used as vectorballs.

Some of your suggestions had those but others don’t.

15 Years of Fame by Up Rough also has some animated bobs towards the end.

@gaspode: As far as i remember i haven´t seen another demo before the RSI-vectorballsdemo with this kind of bobs. All other demos mentioned here are just normal vectorball-demos without the smooth "gif-animation" while buzzing around.

@marsupli: Yeah, it's strange no one even tried to make something like this before and after, because it enhances the effect so much.

Elysium / Sanity had nice morphing vector bob cubes afair. But that´s not what you´re looking for ;)

Also De Profundis has large animated bobs (without 3D rotation).

in Overdrive 1 we rendered real time ray traced lightning strikes on our vectorballs by the mighty power of blast processing from the Sega genesis

they could also be pixeled i dont know anymore what wizardry Kabuto pulled.. :D
