Is it possible to code this ?

category: general [glöplog]

I had a half-alseep idea about linking a bunch of old consoles/puters (atari2600/speccy/c64/amiga) together to use all there soundchips for real-time composing.

either with actual hardware (im not sure if that is possible but its the coolest way)

or

using the sound part of emulator code to write an all-in-one monster tracker ? (still pretty cool)

or

or vsts of each soundchip and do it on the pc (easy and not as cool)

I would be more interested in the actual hardware or ripping the sound sourcecode from emulators etc

any ideas? or should i go back to sleep haha ?

:)
Your dream is real. It is done already for many older sound chips. There are many trackers and other software can run emulated or real sid chips on real or custom hardware. There are also dozens of SID emulation VST:s and some that do many other chip models as well.

Yes it's possible and probably already done.

Make a MIDI adapter for each computer. For the C64 there are ready-made MIDI adapters and software like the MSSIAH cartridge. For Amiga as well. For Spectrum ... not sure, but it's certainly possible. With something like an Arduino Nano you can create MIDI adapters for anything that can react to electrical signals. There are ready-made libraries for MIDI handling.

I imagined the vst way would have been done.. how would something like the vcs react to electric signals for midi ? something like CV.. im not sure about spectrum either. i will do a bit of research. It would be nice to see them all hooked up hardware wise playing different parts of the same song
pandur: exact same thought :-D
