Overdoze demoshow Youtube channel

category: general [glöplog]
before 2007-2008 the 4:3 (or 5:4) was the typical display ratio, and i also follow the typical resolution too (eg 1024x768 around 2000, and 1280 later). i use retro pcs until 2006.

there are many demos with 4:3 resolution, but with 16:9 "active" part, many times with fake ratio (wide something), and fake positioning because the devs cannot see the real border of the screen on a crt.

another issue, the timing positioning of the analog input, if there are more mode switching. etcetc

i really cannot tell, how many issues are there, what i had to resolve, to get the unified view for a demoscene age, how it looked at those time on a typical display. i made rules after 20-30 demos, i recaptured everything again to get the best compromise.

but anyway, thank you for the watching, i do not want to invest more time into this project. i will publish the upcoming videos, then good luck for somebody else to capture videos.

listen, the main concept of the channel, to show the most of products, how they looked in the past on a retro machine in a retro form (screen ratio, typical resolution, etc).

Old captures in YT can provide this experience too.

I think your project is still relevant beside this small hiccup, it would be sad to stop it ;).

...on a PC? This is not C64. The last time I didn't see the screen borders on a PC CRT was because it was broken, and not because this was a normal thing.

And you just completely ignored the argument about borders being added being all but authentic. So maybe it's better if we leave it at that...
@arncht Noone said that you should stop your project, I personally think it's cool what you're doing.

That said, I'm a bit confused regarding your concept of preservation. When the channel started I thought it would be about doing high quality new captures of old stuff, by employing the latest achievements in capturing hardware and video compression technology. Cause that would make sense.

However, creating inferior captures just because "that's the way we first saw these" doesn't sound reasonable to me, I'm sorry. Even though Chaos Theory is more than a decade old, I would always want to experience it in the best possible quality.

Of course that's just my opinion, and you are free to create your own versions on your channel. You could add a CRT filter for super authenticity for all I care, but submitting that as the official capture is already crossing a line that we as the authors have hard feelings about, I'm sure you understand that.

@arncht:
I'm pretty sure you're already fed up with our "complaining" around your channel, but just for the record:

Elevated was released in 2009 BP, and not 2016 (that's a very different Elevated and 256b not 4k). ;-)

I kindly ask you to correct this "nuance"!

I just wanted to say that I respect all the work (which frankly looks like a _lot_) you put into this project. I would say ignore all the complaints and do you what you like the way you like. If you stop, that's kind of sad, but it's your decision after all.
