Tulpamania
category: offtopic [glöplog]
What do you think?
Have you tried it?
Is it always having positive effects?
Can it sometimes have negative effects?
I write random things on oneliner. Sometimes things my mind pops and words combined together. Because it's oneliner, I take myself less seriously. Didn't mean to say anything negative about those who practice it when I said scary fuckers (it was more like a joke, your are a scary MF you know?). I am mostly open and kinda fascinated in what they do and that's fine with me, not my business to judge.
I heard about it years ago and reading. Never tried it 1)Needs too much investement, 2) Scares me. But 3) Fascinates me. Now I read about it again and only now I catched some parallels with meditation philosophy (a thing I am also not familiar with, however I started reading Sam Harris book Wake Up and trying to do sessions with his app). They would say Tulpas helped them fight depression and improve in life, etc. Now I revisit some people talking about it in youtube, it makes sense why it helped many people. Create something like a 3rd person who shares your brain (so it kinda knows you /understands you) but without the stress/complex of the 1st person. Like a close friend who understands you and you are not afraid to share things. But maybe better than a close friend who might not completely understand you or say something that triggers you. Tulpa is like a you who is not you but understands and comforts you. In meditation, there is this idea of your ego being an illusion, tulpa is like you create a second identity that observes your ego from a 3rd perspective without the trappings of your ego.
Anyway,. I still don't think I will get into it (too much investment and I would be scared, or not have reason to do it). It might also disrupt the current meditation sessions I am into, so I don't consider it now.

thought this be about the Tulipmania but It's about people purposely giving themselves schizophrenia :(
any demos with tulips in them?
I can't seem to find any information on this, neither google nor youtube know anything about it? I don't think that schizophrenia (or going by optimus's description, what you probably meant to refer to: multiple personality disorder) is something you can purposely give to yourself by exercising mental projection strategies.
Oh, there is information in this https://www.tulpa.info
I thought this was about having a passion for Tupla.
These videos I saw recently were more interesting than any other stuff on the subject, connecting also meditation, referring to some research https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZ0BoPXfEKo

Hmmm, I've solved the problem, just go here ...
Everything that can have positive effects can have negative effects, as well. Just like meditation.
I've considered it, but I don't think it would work for me. A good friend of mine has had a tulpa for years now, though it's much less "active" than it used to be.
If you're listening to Sam Harris' app, do give a listen to his conversation with Loch Kelly. I found Harris' book meh, but that podcast episode contains the best pointing-out I've come across, can be life-changing stuff. Kelly's books are great too.
I'd also recommend looking into Internal Family Systems (which Loch Kelly coincidentally also teaches, but I mention this more re: tulpas).

I've heard and read about tulpas like around 7 years ago.
I believe that this is a real phenomena, and is definitely within the realms of possibility.
However, at the same time I believe that this is something that shouldn't be done, as creating a separate consciousness that lives inside your mind sounds very dangerous. What if that consciousness hates you? What if it decides to be a nuisance? From what I know you can't just turn it off once you will it into existence. In my eyes, it's definitely not a risk worth taking.

@Diamondie: Thanks for the suggestions, pretty interesting stuff. I've noticed Loch Kelly among other speakers in Sam's app, just haven't gone to start listening to the conversations yet.
@isocosa: Most people on tulpa communities claim it's not dangerous and the nightmare scenario of a negative tulpa almost or always never happens. But yeah, what you describe is the 2nd reason I don't dare to even try even if it sounded fascinating at first (1st reason is it simply takes too much time, I wouldn't normally even give the time/effort to pet an animal, how much an imaginary entity). It might be an attachment to cover for the bare self, but what happens if it goes away and it was your only sense of positive self for a while?

So if my imaginary friend contributes to my product, should I give her credits to be used in scene databases or are credits deserved only for those who have a positive ontological status?
@la_mettrie, yeah you could, defjam does it all the time as lsl
hmh, what would Maali do?
isocosa: Most people's minds already have parts that appear to hate them and/or create nuisance. :-P That's why Internal Family Systems was developed.
is tulpamania on the rise or fall?
