Well, not really, that was just for the clickbait.

However, my trusty old amiga mouse decided to break: the right button aint doint it anymore (and its quite important for workbench usage). Looks like the microswitch went AWOL, theres no click and no reaction (but something rattling inside).
I tried to open the damn thing but it seems theres no way without destroying it even more so I guess thats it. I tried to look on the web for a replacement but all the amiga webshops i checked list mouses as "not in store".

Sooo... does anyone have a spare one and could sell it to me or has a bright idea how to replace an amiga mouse without paying ridic prizes on interncontinential shipping and so forth (im german based)?

Generell sind die Leute von Alinea recht umgänglich wenn man mal nach was aussergewöhnlichem fragt (haben mir extra ein SCART-RGB Kabel mitgebracht zur Amiga34, z.B.), aber wie wäre es ausserdem hiermit?

Just get one of those USB adapters. I use a "Cocolino" with my A1200 and also have a couple of cheap ones from ebay.

I still have some adapters for ps/2 mouses I built a few years ago. If you happen to have a ps/2 mouse around I can send one to you.

Is it an A1200 mouse? Maybe you can attach the switch again by soldering. How the mouse can be opened is shown in this video:

New, original style, A1200 mice had been sold by Amiga Kit at Amiga Event 2010 in Essen "25 years Amiga" back in the days. Atm. they got spare switches at least on their website:

A good solution for modern optical mice with scrolling wheel would be Micromys by Individual Computers. This is the best working Amiga mouse adapter I tested so far in sense of accuracy e.g. while working with paint programs.

i am sooo happy that i got a spare golden image optical mouse plus two extra mousepads that are working with it; some years ago, just saying. :) suuuuper happy :)

and yea, like dOc.K sez, it is not impossible to open the mouse. it should be fixable.

as always with microswitches probably the spring snapped, manage to open it and reattach/replace

Ah, yes! I didnt know i had to peel off the commodore label first to get to the screws. will try to open it and see whats inside.
If its unfixable for me I guess an USB adapter is the way to go since usb mouses (and joysticks) are sure to exist for a while and cheaply available anywhere.

Back in the day I just replaced the microswitch

Those switches cost next to nothing and can be easily found on ebay (be sure to get the dimensions right, there are some variants).

Most simple way to remove them is to cut all four pins and get rid of the switch. After that, desolder each pin separately. The method shown in the video is possibly a bit aggressive to the PCB. One might want to be a bit more gentle with such an old PCB.

In case you can wait until the next party... I possibly have some spare switches.

I had the same problem with right click, but it was not the mouse but leaking capacitor near CIA that was causing it. be sure you're chasing the right problem. good luck with the ami.

good hint there! had a friend with the same problem...one of the two CIAs...must have been an older Commodore! ;)

I had the same issue with my A500 mouse (both keys practically dead). Just changed the microswitches, and it's as good as new.

also, quite regularly there 2 resistors on the joyports are being fried.

but they are just some sort of "dirty fuse". so when in doubt, these 2 should not be part of the problem, since they can be left away - but this may transfer critical voltage loads to other components, so better replace instead of remove them. anyways if you spot them burned, mouse and joystick should be working fine. just to have cleared up potential question marks.

Well, turns out it was the right plastic pin which pokes the switches which broke off (hence the rattling). I superglued it back on and so far its working, lets hope it lasts ^^
