what [windows] modplayer to use?

category: general [glöplog]
some songs often suggest what players to use and what players to avoid. I usually use Modplug, though it doesn't play some of distance's songs right. Is there any win32 player that just... plays them all right?

no

since distance's track are mostly IT, you could use impulse tracker since it has win32 (directsound) support.

XMPlay is the best i've found... still not perfect. And yes, you can use IT under Windows ("tutorial" for XP and 2K here)

Deliplayer is pretty decent, plus its not shareware anymore except for some useless diskwriting plugin.

I play my stuff in Sonique usually. It uses MikIt, which seems to play stuff decently.

imho Modplug player is the best around. i haven't found any tunes that play incorect 'till now.
just one thing : don't ever try to listen to tracked music with Winamp (i know many people do)..

I'm also lucky with the Modplug Player and had never bigger problems with it.

I'm using xmplay, but I HATE the new interface. The old one was perhaps "programmer like" but at least was easy to handle and efficient to use. The new one is certainly more in the "xp" tendancy, but sucks hard in the usability department.

xmplay all the way! i have to agree with dbug though, i liked customizing the colours in the old interface :)

I use *shock* winamp - however the majority of the files are already encoded as LAME --alt-preset standard mp3's. The only way to fly... albeit with the effort in the first place to get them encoded.

uhm, you could just harrass your group's coder and get him make a player with "bass" if you don't like XMPlay's interface... it'll sound the same, and it's definitely simple to do (you don't need many of the options XMPlay gives)

winamp rocks. i play adlib tunes with it too.

modplug deals really well with XM files.. for MODs î'd use WinAmp with 0ldskool plugin..

winamp roxx? for mpeg3 should be but the sound of XMs is terrible and without oldskool plugin all the mods are replayed incorrect and sounds shitty as well..

XMplay works great, thanks everyone. The interface isn't bad if you get used to it.
Deliplayer can't seem to play a lot of songs right
Sonique's cool but it's too fat for my [rather outdated] PC :)
I never trust winamp with XM/IT

get the bass/xmplay plugin for winamp, it's quite convenient..
offers a decent sound with winamp gui to select the tracks ..

the only bad point may be that it doesn't use winamp's audio system, it plays sound directly to the soundcard, therefore visualizations plugins don't work with it .. but who cares ??

just a followup question: any [windows] players that have the "note dots" from Cubic Player? OpenCP and the old CP don't work on my computer (bad sound hardware, hates dos)

nevermind, got CP to work finally

Most Winamp plugins work with modplug, just look out for one with a "note dot" effect.

the CP one worked specifically with mods... each sample got a random dot color, and was organized into the original mod's channels, so it was a neat way to view the insides of the songs as you play them
