RIP Nectarine... AGAIN!
category: general [glöplog]
Can we just bring Nectarine back?? Is it that difficult? Ok, 13 pages of dicussion, I think I barely read 3 of them but what the hell!! Necta was great for the scene and the scene needs things like Nectarine. If Arab does not want to continue with it I am pretty sure that he/she can ask for what it was hosted and put it somewhere else.
i wouldn't expect much tbh
If you love something, set it free.. and then hope someone actually picks it up, and it won't just rot away in github like several of my projects.
setting it free and sitting around hoping someone will recapture it is not exactly 'setting it free'.

AFAIK some people are currently making efforts to get it back but there is no signs that the former admin would return the database, so it will take some time. However, site's interface is not lost and some other data has been saved as well.
Visit #nectarine-rebuild at irc.esper.net for more information.
I would spend money to see Nectarine back. I always listened to it while doing my data things.
la_mettrie pretty much said it so far. No particular news apart from that (someone will mention something when it happens), but people are working on it.
In the meantime, the original Nectarine audiostreams still work (although on permanent random shuffle):

I guess I'm late to the story.. but whatever happened: Thanks arab for keeping it going for so long. Both Yes and then Arab did so much for this site that I'm eternally grateful for the time it ran, accompanying me through the demoscene days. I made great friends, returned to the scene after a long long time and generally had a blast I will never want to miss.
I'd love to see it rise again. But for now I just want to say "thank you!"

Front page changed.
But the panda is still sad.
Please set <meta charset="utf-8"> in the .html, it's 2018 ffs.
The panda is so motherfucking sad. A 24/7 DJ random stream is a poor substitute.
If there ever was a GOD out there, plase bring back necta so I can request even worse tunes. kthx bye.

Peace and love to all.

Is there a scenemusic channel list somewhere? Didn't know about CVGM until prowlers post..!
CVGM is great... Especially if one likes (older) game music as well

Not sure what kind of list u talk about, we have songs labeled : Demo, Game, Etc. so u can easily see which one is from where - and open the whole list as well. We even have the source "Crap" :) btw CVGM is now under maintenance - if someone was afraid, do not worry it will be back soon!
Scene radios are Nectarine (down at the moment), SceneSat and Bitjam
Following radios play mostly game music but contain also relevant amounts of scenemusic: Kohina, CVGM, Radio Paralax, SLAY radio
SceneSat hosts demoscene events and has livehosted scenemusic programs at times. The trouble with SceneSat is that their playlist (outside of shows) contains lots of non-scene music from small labels, game remixes and is very weighted towards UNTZ UNTZ genres. They have promised to fix the issue for years but for some reason they still have not carried out the database reform.
Bitjam is a rather good alternative but suffers from a bit of a lack of quality control. There are lots of of game remixes and other suspicious tracks. The quality is partly a subjective issue of course but too many low quality songs using ST-01 samples (which are great when used skillfully) apparently is not a good thing. Also lots of rap etc. controversial stuff.
Nectarine playlist also is a bit uneven since it has only limited quality control (at least they have limited game remixes and non-scene music though it contains lots of 8-bit & 16-bit game music) and when the site is available, songs are requested by users some of whom favor "crap songs" like hardcore remixes of christmas songs (in the middle of the summer). Still the best scenemusic stream ATM in my opinion. When Nectarine plays shite, switch to Bitjam. If Bitjam plays shite too, switch to Kohina.
Kohina is mostly about chipmusic. Their playlist is small but carefully chosen. Very recommendable if you like old game music with some demoscene extras. CVGM has had no quality control (contains lots of ambiental tracks from games) but is good at least when somebody is requesting and the database is highly interesting. Check it out! Slay Radio is mostly about C64 game remixes. Good if you are into them. Radio Paralax is mostly about Chris Hülsbeck ...well not really. Seems to stress synthwave or such stuff, often from small labels.

...and of course, switch to SceneSat when they have a show there
