What has opened my eyes
category: residue [glöplog]
In the past 18 years, I received thousands of articles for Hugi and published them, and I even spellchecked them.
Now I wanted to submit an article to a scientific journal and read that this journal charges $2000 per submitted article! Of course I cancelled the submission.
Another journal demands that all submissions be orthographically perfect, and if the staff finds a spelling mistake they will charge a fee.
Where have I been living for the past 18 years? I could be a millionaire by now...

No.
Scientific journals are money hungry bastards, receiving money from the work of others. Not a fair system, i agree, but that's how it is. There are very few journals (but they do exist!) that pay money TO the submitter if the submission is very good.
I guess the $2000 for paper open access, don't make open access and they wont charge you.
Entenmann says: who the fuck gives a shit?
$2000 sounds like a predatory publisher, too. http://scholarlyoa.com/
soon: what has kept my eyes open
Not too late to charge $2000 from unssi!
I was going to write a comment about having a cousin from Nigeria who needed to move $25mil. offshore and how he'd give Adok 10% if he forwarded me his bank account details to temporarily put the money into, but...
What are you trying to submit and why do they want to charge you. If it's for editing go thru a professional editing service - much cheaper. And no, opening an article up in word and running spellcheck is not editing - a good editor will check everything including your references and even the working of any formulea.
If it's for peer review you're actually better off approaching your peers - old uni professors or people you know who work in the field. Some may grumble about the time/energy involved and yes you may have to offer some "incentives". But still far cheaper than 2 grand and you get reviewed by people you know, know what they are talking about. Hope some of that helps.
Tbh it sounds like they either have their heads so far up their own arses they think they're worth $2000 an article or they simply use that to filter out the time wasters who they figure won't front up with the money.

First of all wich journal?
Secondly you don't need to publish a paper in an journal for it to gain academic recognition. Submit it to conferences instead and se if you can get to present it there.

Sure, because Hugi is also as valuable as scientific journals.
It is a medical research article. We wanted to submit it to this journal because it is going to have a special issue that is related to the subject of our article. But we will definitely not pay $2000. We will search for another journal.
panic is right, the journal that charged $2000 per article is an open-access journal.

You anus.
Uranus?
What an anus, for doing things for free for 18 years which others earn millions with.
We should have monthly demoscene salary, LOL
Indeed, because, as we all know, there are shitload of diskmag editors who are millionaires now.
Adok's trolling again, let us all stay completely still - his vision is based on movement.
great movie.
