Renaissance (USA demogroup) -- help wanted

category: general [glöplog]
american scene was and has never been more than two things: Renaissance and Hornet (Tran went solo, but is still regarded as Renaissance).

I don't see norwegians going head over heals trying to write about Spaceballs and Andromeda in wikipedia.
DELETE. vanity. self-promotion. fancruft. is of no significant interest beyond computer enthusiast (whatever those are). non-notable, googling "renaissance (demoscene)" doesn't give ANY hits! (after all googling for asdfsd gives more than 3000 hits yet there's no page about that in wikipedia) Actually this should be a candidate for speedy deletion. How do we know this isn't patent nonsense anyway? After all these people with funny nicks could be just about anyone or even the same person.

don't be so mean guys. :) though i don't feel that renaissance needs to be in wikipedia, there are a lot of other stuff there that doesn't really need to be there either. the fact that there -were- just one proper american demogroup deserves some notice, and with demos like this renaissance had a big impact on my early scene years for sure.

I can't see any problem with the fact that people are adding information to wikipedia. it is afterall what the site is intended for. more info is better, as long as it's unbiased.

Of coz, when one says Renaissance is the only American demogroup, that is only applicable to the PC scene. The C64 NTSC scene was pretty active.

"PMODE brought forth the evolution of DOS extenders, technology which was later incorporated into such legendary games as DOOM."

Uh, DOOM just used dos4/gw. And PMODE didn't bring forth any evolution, since extenders were already available back then.

Uh?

"They arrived late in the game, when Amiga computers were already quite powerful. Thus, their demos focus more on pure art than on the technical excellence required to extract beautiful effects from slow home computers."

Stop huffing paint, weirdo. (and thanks for a laugh, scali) ;)

why do people write shit about shit they don't know shit about?

reed: will you please let "scene historians" write about "scene history" on wikipedia, it's their purpose!

I mean, what will "they" do if you don't let them?

;)

The US demoscene calmed down a LOT and was much friendlier than the modern PC scene by around 89-91. In fact, the era that Elwix was actually a PART of...

"I know Elwix/Style... and you're NO Elwix/Style." LOL

Seriously, though, to say Renaissance is the only American group is ignoring every computer but the PC. Lords was probably the most famous of the C64 NTSC groups, but they were far from alone.

Excellent. I think I've now sufficiently frightened every one of you from contributing to latest and greatest cesspool of the internet.

why do people write shit about shit they don't know shit about?

Is this directed towards the TBL article, or just a generalism.
