USA! USA! USA! UAS! UAS!

If Bush resigned or was killed, then Cheney would take over, and he's running the country anyway.
Basically, the party with the more charming candidate wins, and Bush is a what-me-worry, good ol' boy. People see him confused on TV and think, aww, he's just like us.
Oh well, we haven't been attacked in three years, we gotta be doing something right.

That is deeply offensive! I think what you meant was:
Americans see him confused on TV and think, aww, he's just like us.
:)
life isn't really happening anyway.

Let me see, A neocon for president, significant majorities in both houses of congress, and a few retiring supreme justices? GREAT! Let's see what type of new legislation they pass now, as well as what type of freedoms we'll have to compromise. It wouldn't be half as bad if they didn't have such large majorities in congress. Now, the GOP will just be able to pass just about any bill they could possibly fathom.
Which is the freest country on earth? The answer’s easy. It’s the United States. Ask anyone. And why are we the freest? [read more], the text rocks. :)
madenmann: what text?;-)
Fuck! Once again... Anyway, google is sometimes a good help: [the text]
a bit more on the serious side; there was a discussion on norwegian television last night, in which several clever people got together and talked about what bush winning the election will mean.. for europe and for the us.
first of all; everyone (apart from the representative from "republicans abroad" who had little to say) pretty much agreed on that the usa will "slip back" and isolate itself more from europe and the world, mostly with the excuse of fundamentalist christian "values" and this deluded idea that the usa is the "greatest country/democracy in the world", which everyone outside it's borders instantly recognizes as pure bullshit.
one of the participants had a hell of a good point too - the usa has never been invaded/occupied. norway has, france has, germany has (even though they "branched out" pretty well themselves before it happened :), poland, italy, russia etc.. we all have. we've been there and learned something from it.
secondly; the right-wing fundamentalists should seriously open their eyes to the rest of the world. what is viewed/labeled as "liberal" in the usa is considered a well-defined defacto standard in most of europe. take abortion for example - a featus is not a life. it's a womans choice if she want's to have an abortion - LIVE WITH IT! gay marriages - a marriage is just a symbol of two peoples love for each other. if they are gay or not, it doesn't fucking matter - LIVE WITH IT! creationism - don't be stupid. god did not create you in one day. removing the theory of evolution from your schools just further perpetuates your idiocy and ignorance - GET OVER IT!
..bah, sorry to the americans here (andy etc.) i'm sure you know this isn't aimed at you. :) it's just that.. .well.. if common sense and intelligent discussions is thrown under the rug and replaced by brainwashing nonsense and the repetition of outright lies is accepted and embraced by the majority of your people.. well, you need to do something about it, before some nutcase pushes the button.

i won't even bother to pretend that this shocks me. :)

shane: yeah, by "people" i meant the 58 million americans who voted for him.
gloom's stuff:
"the usa will "slip back" and isolate itself more from europe and the world, mostly with the excuse of fundamentalist christian "values" and this deluded idea that the usa is the "greatest country/democracy in the world", which everyone outside it's borders instantly recognizes as pure bullshit."
That's pretty much the conservative ideology at the moment - "if you're not with us, you're against us". Even with the internet, most of the heartland Americans feel the rest of the world has nothing to provide them except Playstations.
"the usa has never been invaded/occupied."
We were however attacked with our own airplanes, which led to control through fear/uncertainty/doubt (color-coded alert levels, anyone? we're still on orange!).
gay marriage - This is an ingenious strategy of Bush. He throws something out there that's ridiculously out of the mainstream - adding an amendment to the Constitution to ban gay marriage. He gets the love of the religious right, and he gets more central conservatives to say, no, but maybe we'll make it an election issue and try out the law in some states. So by asking for more than what he wants, he gets, as a compromise, what he wants.

gloom: I can't attest to the validility of those numbers; IQ test results are usually kept private. But of course, it's no surprise at all. Newsweek or Time had pre-election breakdowns by race, income, education, etc. and Kerry voters had a higher level of education. Some observations though: 1. I'm in the smartest state (CT), w00t!, and 2. Utah, the home of Pilgrimage, and supposedly the birthplace of computer graphics, is the second dumbest. :)
another 4 years of fun.. first i was really upset but then.. i just think i can have some fun looking at bush : )
I've been avoiding politics talk for the past couple of days, but I'll just say this. I live in the US. Bush being the president isn't what scares me, it's that the majority of the country and everyone around me (I'm in Iowa) is now proven to be simple-minded, kneejerk-reactionary and easily-led. The rise in power of the religious right (not always in political office, but just the attitudes of the people on the street) is terrifying.
A silly little example: We were going to the mall the other day (like good US citizens, haha) and they had some new country station broadcasting outside. Some retarded nationalistic song was playing, with the lyrics being something about the US putting a boot in your ass if you were against us. Laughably disgusting, right? So my wife and I were mocking it. And we got rude stares from everyone around us.
So what are we doing about it? We're getting the hell out of Dodge, as it were, and planning to move out of the US in two years. Despite what the rest of the world may think, there ARE some really nice things about living in the US, but for us, the thought of raising our children in this sort of climate is troubling.

I think the only things people in Europe should do is stop mocking about Bush and all the horrible things that the administration could probably do [they are going to happen, like it or not] but to concentrate on ourselves and try to not let it happen in Europe. It's not that people here are so much smarter or less easily controlled. It's not like mass media wouldn't gain more and more influence and politics would not shift away from factual discussions to short emotional-led crusades. There are many things to look forward to in .eu like those nice software patents ;)
So to make it short, I would not want to tear bigger holes between us and the states (which is produced by such mockery, even if only targeted at their president) The states have always influenced trends in europe I do not want to see a new Europe building on fear, intolerance and abused religious conservatism

SiW: Hearing that from a US citizen gives me the hope for a good end. Everytime when I read some stupid news from "over there" it are people like you (and Truck) who are "symbols" for me to show not all people think that way. :)
Paralax: Good point.
Anyway, i still think this
www.knife-party.net/flash/barry.html
sould run in shopping malls and on tv channels instead of mobile-phone-ringtone commercials.

phoenix: i agree with all you're saying, apart from the bit about "bush's strategy" - i think we have to put "carl rowe" in there somewhere too. :)
and no, i don't think that iq-chart is 100% scientifically accurate, i just thought it was kind of ironicly amusing :)
the planes bit: yeah, you're right about that, but there is a significant difference. first of all (and i don't mean to start any more fires here), if that had happened in russia or afghanistan or germany for that matter - none of those countries (i believe) would have ended up with a reaction like the one in the usa. secondly; a "blitz-krieg"-style attack cannot really be compared to a lenghty occupation (spanning months and years). it simply cannot. if the usa had experienced such an occupation/invasion, they would have learned what it means to the people, how the resistance builds up etc. this is perhaps one of the biggest reasons why the usa is so seriously unfit to "have a war" in places like vietnam or iraq (second to the obvious reason - you should never have gone in the first place, but let's leave that for now :)
paralax: your post makes the most sense of pretty much anyone in this thread, however; i reserve the right to ask questions as to why the american people voted as they did.
i'd also like to point out that if i hear ANYONE say the phrase "yeah? well, if it wasn't for us, you'd all be speaking GERMAN by now!" i'm going to seriously consider to smack him/her in the face. GET OVER IT!
(btw: fox news needs to burn to the ground)
wow.. i can't seem to be able to stop ranting.. :)
(ps! i'm not suggesting that we invade the us btw, so you secret service people can relax :)

too bad the kerry-voter states are scattered around the country. maybe they could move to one side and separate themselves as sg like Decent States of America.
I guess a "don't look at me like this - YOU voted for him" t-shirt would be nicely selling.

abductee: GREAT ONE!
nula's words.
gargaj - as Jon Stewart, the only newsman in America actually worth paying attention to, said, the democratic states are almost all coastal, so we're gonna eventually control access to the sea and maybe we'll be able to starve the god damn republican wankers to death.
SiW - I unfortunatley know exactly which song you're talking about; a used-to-be-friend of mine was about as rabidly midwestern as you can get and he was a country fanatic and one day I was riding in the car with him and he was BLASTING that song on the radio. Talk about insensitive, intolerant, out-and-out nationalistic in a bad way shit music. damn.
I bet a lot of americans would be pretty pissed to know that if it wasn't for the French helping us during the revolutionary war, we'd all still be eating crumpets and bowing to the queen. Some non-profit organization should start making public service commercials to tell us all those little facts that will point out all those little snippets from history which get conveniently ignored. And, by the way, america HAS been invaded once.. during the war of 1812 i believe, the british and the canadians burned down the white house and most of the rest of washington D.C. All in response to our (failed miserably) attempt at invading Canada. There's a lot of interesting history here that would go a loooong way to making the average american a little less bigoted and stupid if anyone had ever bothered to try and teach them.
Oh well ... truck, andy, SiW, BH, gz, and the other scattered American sceners, we're just going to have to get together and build a bunker (metaphorical or physical) and just hope "To God" that the country doesn't get nuked around us, and that we don't all get lynched for being anti-Bush. Rest of the world, Please wish us luck. We're going to need it. Now's a bad time to be progressive and individual in this country.
