Things you hate about the current scene
category: general [glöplog]
2004 has been a good year so far. All the parties I've been to provided good fun and all my friends are still doing great, and that counts.
Releases-wise, it has been a quite one, perhaps many people out there are sharpening their weapons and will come to kick some asses next year.
Pixelshaders 2.0 became almost mandatory, and this sux because I need to update my hardware.

- people who whine about how bad and dead the scene is.
good thing, the times are over when people bid the scene farewell by releasing textfiles where they state that they leave because the scene died.

i always thought the "quitting the scene" thing was a cry for attention, or an excuse to regain popularity through a "comeback". those who really don't want to participate anymore don't make a big announcement, they just fade away over time.
- too few autumn parties in sweden :(
Nothing.
I sure am glad nobody makes pathetic pleas for attention in the form of "I quit" threads here on pouet. :)
- 4k intros importing dll functions by ordinals
- 4k intros with .bat extension
- pixelshader stuff, particularly for effects which don't need it
- not releasing stuff right after the parties, but waiting for "final versions"
- scenepoetry
and what others already said:
- not enough time
- not enough parties (in my country)
- not enough porn in prods :)

Oh Shane! 2004 wasn't THAT bad! Go and code a good demo on your own (which is not possible as you cannot code) I cannot either but I don't complain about how bad all the demos are...
- too much whining in stupid pouetposts instead of being CREATIVE
(and yes, i'm guilty of that too :P)
- Too many people talk about and dare to judge "the scene" without even trying to take part actively.
(Yes, I see the potential for contradiction)

All you wankers.
- self-proclaimed geniuses acting like someone shoved a fist of sand up their butt whenever something isn't funny in their not-so-humble opinion.
- "x is better than y because it isn't z" -great reasoning there, buddy!
- people thumbing down products because of pixel shaders (GET A NON-STONE-AGE GRAPHICS CARD. They're being bundled with a carton of yoghurt, so to speak)
- People whoring releases in the news posts.

True - on the other hand, a convenient and informative way to announce e.g. final versions of prods would be nice.

radman, did you forget optimus' threads already? his 'i shouldn't be on pouet because ..'-posts are worth a book.
May i remind you that we had arise / stravaganza this year ... and nice prods from portal process... so if you want some more good prods move you own ass !
and well irvin : i don't really get your point about the trip to france ...
- PS the clueless demoscene n00b :)
