really awesome what the nasa is offering and will mosdef offer concerning good HD visuals. tho what bugs me a lil what's written in the blog there. aboutthe transmission and the delay of the radio waves. i thought about that when they actually landed. how they get images so fast. there's quite some way from mars. and isn't radio usually a lil slow. thought they did it with a laser guided transmission from the orbiters as light travels faster. or i might wanna check my science knowledge again. :D
Yes, please check again. Both light and radio waves are electromagnetic waves and travel at the speed of light (or less, depending on the medium they travel through).
The commands for producing the first images were not sent by the ground station, they were hard-coded into the landing program. Hence, the only delay is the 14 minute transmission delay from Mars to the Earth, and you don't notice this, because everything NASA received was delayed by 14 minutes.

lol thx trc_wm. i know that this was all coded and the initial delay of the transmission. after checking myself i guess i have mistaken the frequency with the actual speed of the emwaves again. *facepalms* so...

Not far off actually, from the bottom of the wheels to the top of the mast is around 2m.
and i am really small!
