On that note - yes please make subtitle translations (possibly as a coop effort so it's double-triple-...-checked) and send it back to us so we can put it on youtube, etc.

Quote:
The Demo being referred to here was initially a kind of hi-tech, codified greeting that danced and sang in the period before your pirated game booted up. They would call out other crews by name, heaping scorn upon vile “lamers” in impossibly smooth bouncing text. Eventually, the pirated software became almost vestigial compared to the quest for hardware mastery and the two forms were decoupled.

I guess that qualifies as "outreach" ;D. Great documentary and great work getting a screening at such a large event.

we are looking to release the french subtitles
Garg has been a very good ambassador for this film.
So, let me tell you all how the Penny-Arcade frontpaging of the movie came to be:

1. I propose to Garg that it gets screened at PAX East. This plan was heartily approved.

2. We submit the request, it's accepted and eventually goes on the PAX East schedule.

3. A CRACK SQUAD (of people who couldn't make Revision) come together: to actually present it: micksam7 and phoenix agree to join me. (metoikos would have, but she was at Revision, of course.)

4. Come the time of screening, we expect maybe 5-10 people. We get about 120.

5. Tycho from Penny-Arcade literally taps me on the shoulder later and says: "Hey, [t-zero], I couldn't make the screening, could you link me to the movie?" Because it turns out he was into the demoscene when he had an Amiga(aaaaaa).

6. He then finds me again and says: "This is so awesome, I want to frontpage it on the main site in my main newspost to help it get exposure."

7. !!!!!

8. With help from a bunch of people on the PA side and the usual suspects on the scene side (garg, gloom, and of course lameron) we arrange a solution so that the movie won't get 'wanged' by the amount of clickthroughs from penny-arcade.com.

9. It goes up on the main newspost today, Friday 13 April.

10. NOW YOU CAN BLAME ME AND GARG FOR SELLING OUT THE SCENE

hey, due credit to you, KUDOS seriously. thanks again. and I think I introduced to to phoenix and micksam ( :
Next step, get it featured in an xkcd comic? ;)

(oh, and re: metoikos' above post - I forgot to mention that during the screening we also pimped @party! So there might be a few more attendees to that this year...)

Bravo, an article today in the main stream french newspaper Liberation :
http://www.liberation.fr/medias/2012/04/13/hackers-la-demo-ca-decode_811615

The french version :
HACKERS

FWIW, I ran a seed, and the effect from the Penny Arcade posting was hardly felt at all. The day before, I uploaded ~8 full copies (probably mostly to other seeds); now in total, I've uploaded ~11. Of course, this could mean that it got extremely well-seeded beforehand, but I don't really think that was all of it. :-)

Sesse: We managed to get the seed up to ~4-5MB/s the day before, so yes we did seed it rather well. On the other hand, ~4000 plays on Vimeo, ~150 full downloads from scene.org, about ~5000 views on YouTube, and the Twitter search shows that there are people still downloading it. Plus it's gonna stay front page until Monday. It's still not the wanging we expected to get from the 2-3M hits they have daily, but then again we're not an indie pixel platformer either :)

remember my tablet can encode 720p so downloading it from scene.org to rewatch when more sober then i was when sawing it at Revision
Gargaj: 4-5 MB/s? I seeded at >15 MB/s at the highest (with plenty of bandwidth to spare). :-)
