How much time does the deadline need to have to someone feel comfortable to release a demo?
Do you really have to ask that? How long does it take you to make a demo? ;)

4 hours should be enough for every prod ;)
I think announcement of a party should be done at least 2 - 3 months before the party. It's not about the deadlines but about if you actually want people (especially foreigners) to participate the party.
Let's be honest about making entries to demo parties: Navis is the only scener who does compo entries over month before the party.

im usually done about 1 week before the party. except for powerteam stuff which usually is made during the party.
