What makes a scener a scener?

category: general [glöplog]
I wonder what actually makes somebody become a demoscener who contributes to making demos either by coding, creating graphics or composing music. Do you feel that you have a creative drive that is unusual in comparison to the general population? Are there a lot of ideas in your head and do you feel the urge to implement them?

Another question is: How did you acquire your skills? Are you complete autodidacts, or did somebody else teach you to code, compose, draw, etc.?

In personality psychology there's the theory that creativity is inversely correlated with conscientiousness. The more conscientious you are, the less creative you are, usually. For making a demo, you however need to be very creative and also pretty conscientious. That may be an explanation why the number of active demosceners is rather low.

Making a diskmag requires far more conscientiousness than creativity, so that may be an explanation why diskmag editors usually don't make demos and demo makers usually don't make diskmags.

If you call him a scener then he is already a scener.
Do you mean: "What makes someone a scener?"
