How to get into synth / executable music?
category: music [glöplog]
I think 4k music would be better off if people gave up their virtual analog ideals. Go for FM (or rather PM) or something better suited for digital sound
Play random dll files as samples and do a noise prod.
When I was young (yes young, not yougn.), we used to scan the memory with Audiomaster, for great samples. Then we composed joke tunes with them.. :(
Dear linde, you are relevant to my interests.
FM with GPU is quite easy to do.. check bubblin under by adapt
gloom: It was not meant as a hint, it was an observation.
Musicians is not the only group here either; in general, once you give people any less freedom than “do whatever you want, with whatever tools you want” a large chunk just disappear. You're left with a) people who are also coders and thus partially want to do it for the code, b) people who have some other source of motivation (friendship, pity, actual interest in the intro project at hand, etc.), and c) a small handful of masochists who actually find the challenge in itself interesting :-)

And for a lot of people the challenge simply isn't worth it. They just want to have a good time tinkering with simple effects they understand. That's the reason why I think you see so many 'oldschool' demos, or at least oldschool effects in new environments (ds, javascript, whatever).
This is an equally valid way of spending your time creating stuff, of course.

What's all this dissing Jean-Michel Jarre or virtual "analog" sounds? Try making a synth that sounds as good as this intro: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n1Ww_GhGAB0
or this for that matter.
Sesse: i love it how you mention "pity" as a motivation :D
I think 2.bp and such from blogspot are used for image hosting.
Or the entire thread before posting.
That is an insane idea. Who would do such a thing?
The Computer Music Tutorial is a pretty good book. It's also a very powerful weapon.
that screenshot reminded me of audiomulch
about the MIDI/virtual synth discussion: I'm with trc_wm here, IMHO no virtual analogue synth has surpassed real analog synths in terms of sound quality.
they are close but no cigar, IMHO. they have their own merits, like total recall, but they usually sound like plastic to me (no disrespect)
(and thanks for the link, Bladerunner ST is one of my all time favourites)
p.s.: AFAIR the Waldorf WAVE synth used digital Wavetables coupled with analogue filters
p.p.s: KB: please fix your synth or open-source it. It sounds good but it is buggy. (multi-instantiation does not really work and you know it)

8bit bleep music ftw ;)
trc_wm: Pink Floyd! you just made my day :)
Can someone please summaries the synths which are available?
V2, Protrekkr, 4klang
djh0ffman: Define “available”. Are you talking only about synths you can download from Pouët, or would you also include ones you could probably use if you sent the author an e-mail and asked? (I'd guess the latter list is pretty long.)

Let us please not get into a digital vs anologue argument. I've had it with that.
But Audiomulch is awesome!
